Would gunshots and unrealistic death sounds mean a 12+ rating? Or would it mean higher?
Since weβre aiming for 12+, I think βmildβ gun violence (in the war way) would probably still be allowed under a tame form.
probably 12+ at the most. Stuff like βFortniteβ is 12+. If you include blood (which this game probably will) then it might be higher, then again thatβs not guaranteed.
Apparently blood doesnβt count in age rating if itβs not red.
Family Violence is also be a concept that is absolutely not going to be added into base Thrive, right? And I am not just speaking about physical violence, but written and psychological violence in Families. Such as a Mother psychologically abusing her children (some people are just monsters)? Prevalence of Family Violence, and attitudes and laws about it, are important in real-life.
I suppose pathologies will still be present one way or another.
To be honest, hereβs what I can say about this from a technical point of view:
Blood and wounds as decals/textures: quite feasible
Dismemberment: Almost IMPOSSIBLE. Standard methods of creating this through preset parts and models clearly donβt work here, since the organisms that thrive are created by players/generated by auto-evo. The only way to implement anything even remotely similar is to create a dynamic dismemberment system like in Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. But are you absolutely sure that trying to replicate an incredibly complex system that NO ONE has been able to replicate in 10 YEARS is a good idea for a small indie studio?
Sexual intercourse: Very difficult. Since it involves two creatures that can have absolutely any structure, it will be very difficult to implement, as the algorithm would have to automatically generate the animation so that they donβt fall into each other, donβt fall through the ground, donβt break their rig, donβt break their model, and donβt make unnatural movements. Besides, I think the player will only watch it a couple of times, and then theyβll skip it, like many other cutscenes.
I am pretty sure this was confirmed as not coming to the (base) game by now
Could be too gory for the age ratings Thrive is trying to aim at
I was talking about the technical side of this.
Yeah, though it should be remembered that the dev team will also have to tackle some other rather difficult things to implement
Would a simple system of just splitting an organism in half or quarters at the half way/quarter points just horizontally or just vertically be more feasible?
Limbs are pretty much planned to be made out of joints and segments between them. I am not sure if it would be possible to use the joints as βbreakpointsβ, but it would be neat.
I donβt quite think thatβs how quartering works like. Maybe it could leave a corpse object with the discarded parts in the place of the butchering and give you the parts you quartered for (in the awakening/strategy stages)?
Dismemberment by dividing into individual metaballs makes more sense, but itβs still very hard, as it requires consideration: Where should the division be on the metaball itself or in the connection between metaballs? How should it work with metaballs that are connected to multiple metaballs? What texture should be applied? And Etc.
On the other hand, this makes me wonder what kind of health system will be in Macroscopic+? Will it be something like βyour creature took a really hard hit and now has low HPβ or βyour creature took a really hard hit on the leg and now its leg is missing and bleeding profuselyβ? It could also possibly have some gameplay meaning, for example, cutting down a tree could be implemented this way.
Maybe the dismemberment would base on the ability to cleave off metaball connections so that you can cut off portions of the creature, and not dividing the metaballs themselves?
Would thicker limbs, extremities, and joints automatically have more health? In that case, if applied to flora, trying to cut down very thick trees might take a very long time.
Maybe sharp tools like axes would have an advantage over this sort of material, making the process less tedious?
Tissues made of tougher material could require more hits and the thicker they were, the more durable they could be. At least, thatβs what I think.
Obviously. I presume at some point one might switch more to draining the blood off the organism rather than damaging the individual parts
So Mosquito like organisms would also be censored because of blood? Or would the game simply not show the blood being drained?
