Miche Suggestion thread

How exactly does the “avoid predator” miches work?

Maybe it compares the stats of cells with eachother and determines which one can avoid all (or most) others?

I am using a Selection Pressure already in the code. Basically, the node selects the species that is best at not being eaten by that predator according to the game. Be that by being indigestable, too fast, etc.

I wonder if adding in minimum-surface area based miche would produce different results than the “avoid predator” miche…

To be fair the game can make some weird decisions regarding what predates on what if I understood you correctly…

Yeah, like if I add a pilus for defense, and my organism behavior is non-aggressive, the game thinks I am automatically trying to be a predator on other organisms due to having the pilus.

Also having a pilus at your back should be considered a defensive feature rather than an offensive one, if checking for that is even possible…

Would a distinction exist for placement of the Slime Jet (back vs sides/front)?

What is a front-placed slime jet even used for?

Possibly trapping prey in slime, assuming the predator organism in question does not go flying in opposite direction first. My favorite Thrive YouTuber actually ended up unintentiionally using this strategy once in his playthroughs of the game.

Oh so front jet would be predation and back jet would be escape/defense then.

Since not having jets means moving slower through mucus, shooting it at prey in front of you slows them down. I discoverer this when a 100+ hex cell used this to catch my small/faster cell, back in 0.6.7. I think that was the last time I had to adapt to what an AI was doing, I got the slime jet to better escape the giant cells shooting sticky slime at me. This did not help as much with it’s nearly identical twin that shot toxins.

We don’t have those anymore… Or ever again for that matter.

I hope to see them return someday. They made the game more interesting. As I said, that was the last time I had to adapt to what the AI was doing. That was also the last time something was constantly big enough to eat my species. Of course, if I had just split and something else was just about to split, it was big enough, but that greatly varied on timing and worked both ways.

Actually, come to think of it, I haven’t seen anything use slime jets since then either. Hmm. Probably a weird coincidence.

I am pretty sure the volumetric osmoregulation proposal would rid Thrive of such large cells even if they came with a nucleous.

Didn’t Deus say that that was being implemented in Multicellular and beyond but NOT Microscopic?

It’d be weird if it was in multicellular but not microbe as these two really are just two parts of one “Mega-stage”…

Looks like I might slowly be getting somewhere!

Kipian lememos is best at photosynthesis, but Elium vimonolus and especially Onasra Vitor are taking a lot of the anti-predator miches.

And this is reflected in their population:

No species splitting this time, so I think it’s really due to fitting the miche!

P.S.

I later became a eukaryotic predator, and while some of the extra efficient photosynthesis miches were still held by prokaryotes, the anti-predator miches were all taken by eukaryote photosynthesizers!

What weapons did you give your species that the eukaryotic plants were the best at anti-predation? Were you engulfment-only?

For now, just engulfment, so simply being the same size is enough to evade predation I suppose. Which is what I was trying to do.
