yeah, you’d want to have there be set runes that interact with mana in specific ways, and have interactions between runes (or at least groups of runes) be almost entirely procedural. especially since there would inevitably be organs that mix a bunch of runes to achieve a specific effect, like a secondary mouth that lost its connection to the digestive system, and instead is chock full of runes that all form object acceleration glyphs so the mouth can be used to pick up any projectile-worthy object off the ground to cast bullet on predators, and should obligate sapience arise in such a species, it would start making ammo to use to maximize the speed the acceleration runes get the projectiles to, and coating the ammo in materials that kill different things(iron for fae, silver for vampires/werewolves, copper for vampires too, diamond for dragons, etc.) you wouldn’t want to have the mouth be able to, for example, connect all the acceleration glyphs into one glyph that can accelerate a pebble past light speed while draining the surrounding area of all mana in a 5 foot radius, which means you’ll need a max glyph complexity as well. you’d also likely want glyph power to scale with the amount of mana the runes can absorb while the spell is charging, which means certain glyphs would have a time requirement for casting, some could be consciously charged and released, while others would take a specific amount of mana to cast, with the time sensitive ones having their power scale with the concentration of mana in contact with the runes, the consciously charged glyphs would get the most powerful due to power scaling with charging time and mana concentration, and the mana sensitive runes would have a constant power, only be able to be activated when full, and have their casting rate depend on the concentration of mana and rune surface area.
I am suprised no one has added this yet. Proteorhodopsin and Bacteriorhodopsin mod: allows you to add many types of Bacteriorhodopsin, including homologs of Proteorhodopsin and Proteorhodopsin itself (ATP from light).
Wouldn’t this just pretty much just be photosynthesis without good storage capabilities?
Maybe. But the mod could add storage as a buff…
I guess ATP could use having better storage capabilities, but at the same time that could make the game less realistic…

It’s going to take a good while before we even reach macroscopic, especially as we’re not done with microbe yet. Also people might be more interested in modding new tissue types instead of new ways to kill pathogens.
