As stated, game doesn’t let my organism engulf anything once about two cells have been eaten. Unsure why- the game claims I should be able to engulf 1000+ units of ingested matter, but the aforementioned two cells only fill 60-ish of that.
Pretty sure that’s because the storage cap of a specific engulfer cell was hit…
Also welcome to the forum FaceThief!
Yeah, the total storage capacity is the capacity of all of your cells. Whereas when engulfing something it is pulled into the cell that contacted it. So if that specific cell doesn’t have enough storage, it cannot ingest the object.
I think they shouldn’t give each individual cell its own storage, instead of having one universal storage for each cell.
How would this be displayed for the player?
It could merely combine all of the storages of the cells and display them accordingly. Once they connect all of the cell membranes for multicellular stage, the compounds within the digested matter could disperse across the inside of the organism.
Um, I think the ingested cells would stay within their original engulfed until they’re in a single piece no more, right?
I suppose, although the compound dispersing within the cell would look cooler.
It wouldn’t make sense for all storage to be used like how with engulfing is modelled currently. A cell engulfs something and then stores it inside itself. It would make no physics sense for a single cell to be able to use the all capacity of all cells, as there physically is not that much space inside that single cell.
And I know someone will next suggest that ingested stuff could be moved to other cells after ingestion to evenly use up the available space. And to that I’ll reply: It would be a new big feature to program, and I’m starting my vacation from Thrive tomorrow so I don’t need to reply.
I suppose so. Have a good vacation!
Speaking of storage and multicellular, if a player made their build be hollow, could the cavity be used to store stuff?
Thats an interesting idea, I suppose the cell membrane could move around an object or compound until it is within the cavity.
Since iirc early multicellular animals irl were originally hollow “spheres” of cells, with these cavities inside the spheres eventually turning into the baseline for the digestive system.
Thats interesting, I guess the player could use this cavity as a base for their future digestive system.
We’ll see to come if the scales at which multicellular plays out will allow the players to do much about a primitive digestive system in that stage…
Yeah, I guess a Multicellular organism that simple couldn’t have that much of a primitive digestive system.
Organs are only planned for macroscopic anyways.
Anyhow, people have already created ““digestive systems”” made of 3 cells in a column with each digesting one membrane type. Interesting I suppose.
Sorry for any misunderstanding and thanks for the welcome; I’m engulfing with different cells on the organism, and I can only engulf one or two cells for the WHOLE organism.
I see. I also encountered this problem. Not sure much can be done about it currently.
Welcome to the Forum, Facethief.
Not sure if this is what you meant or not.
