I was playing the game when the error appeared: exception: Parameter “vertex_array” is null.
It seemed like this error was occurring on every single frame of the game, as the counter was skyrocketing—logging the same error up to 2,000 times. As previously mentioned, the error occurred when I entered the cell editor in multicellular mode right after reaching that stage. Since I had to enter the editor, the game likely had time to save.
This is likely a random Godot Engine error. Which we have been struggling with ever since the upgrade to Godot 4 and there seems to be no solution in sight. So whenever you hit a random engine error you can only save the game, exit the game process entirely, start it up again, and load the save. Nothing else helps.
So even if we had a save it is extremely likely that loading the save doesn’t make it any more likely to encounter the bug than otherwise, it’s just that the engine falls apart after a few hours of gameplay.
For reference this is the oldest tracking issue we have open about the bug, but I’ll note that your specific error message is different:
I understand. I just tested it here, and the error didn’t happen again. I’ll do some more testing to see if I can find the error. Finally, I really appreciate you replying to this message at 3:00 AM.
