I used to think the earth was round and revolved around the sun. (It’s a bit smushed and revolves around a common center of mass)
I use to think a rainbow had 6 colors and that the 3 primary colors were Red, Blue, and Yellow
Indigo
Pigment: Magenta, Cyan, and Yellow (and Black)
Light: Red, Blue, and Green
I used to think color was comprehendable. It isn’t. It’s eldritch.
Eldritch colors beyond the retina’s comprehension!
when i was a kid i thought that writing the name of a movie in a dvd caused it to have the movie inside it.
Did this belief end because of a dvd being damaged?
no, it was because we stopped using dvds and i realized how stupid it was
what i really damaged tho was the car CD player, putting coins inside the part where we should put the disk.
These coins must’ve been pretty thin to fit inside of it…
When you’re young, your brain doesn’t have enough information to know which era you’re living in. And it doesn’t help that its changing. Where does the movie come from? Are we purchasing to own, or is the name on the dvd, a touchscreen instruction to your parents netflix account? Technology is magic anyway.
I think earth used to be flat.
It only became a globe recently. Middle east was the earliest place in the universe that was created. The rest of the universe didn’t exist. This is why the oldest cultures in the world are in the middle east. The moons of Jupiter didn’t need to exist before Galilei observed them for the first time. Before that, they could just be a picture in the sky. We could we living in a simulation.
Think about it. Is there any proof that the rules of physics can’t change? Or the curvature of the ground?
The solution to the fermi paradox is that the other planets didn’t used to exist, which is why they couldn’t had aliens that could invade us. When we look at the sky, we see the stars, not the planets. Until observed, those solar sytems are in a superposition of having planets and not having planets at the same time.
When we observe something, it exists as particles. When we don’t observe it, it is a wave, which is to say, you don’t have to keep track of what all the particles are doing. You can just take an approximate result of what they would do in the macroscopic scale. But there are still some mistakes, like the double slit phenomenon. If you simulate a planet in full detail, you would get an abiogenesis, life. If you don’t, then you don’t get that.
The only way you could know, what the shape of the world was in the past, is by looking at historical documents. What the people at that time believed.
Because any proof we have right now about the shape of the earth, says nothing about what it was in the past. Any past proof for globeness may have been created at the same time as the globeness itself. By god, or something like that.
The ancient greeks believed the earth was globe. The people before them believed it was flat. Therefore, the earth became a globe slightly before the greeks.
People lived near the coastlines before the greeks as well. Why did anyone belive the earth was flat? The belief for the flat earth is the proof of the flat earth. Didn’t anyone see the ships fall below the horison? Were they all nearsighted? They could probably only see 3 colors, but still, you can see shapes with that.
Before the globe, the earth was probably a circular disk, and the sky was prevented from falling using giant pillars at the edge of the world. Probably, when people reached the edge, they complained why can’t they go any further, and the gods were tired of collecting all the rocks that were thrown down, and the rivers redirected, so they decided to make it so that, when you go too far on one side, you come back from the other, an elegant solution indeed.
Geologic evidence can be planted later by god. But what can’t be changed by god, is our memories, as the mandela effect shows. God probably only gets his power as long as there are people believing in it. Thats why he is so desperate to get us to believe in him all the time, and unalive the disbelievers. The real power is with humans.
If a tree falls, and there is no one to observe it, would it fall? No. A consciousness is needed to collapse a wave function. Wave function is deterministic, but how it collapses isn’t, which is why free will exists. Everything is a decision, even where the wind blows must have been decided by a consciousness, within the confines of the rules of physics it abides, which is the climate. Consciousness is a shortcut for the simulation. Instead of, simulating all the atoms in your body to find out what they will do, it just asks you instead. And you can move your arms. Isn’t that incredible? You can move your arms. No one else gets to decide that, not the atoms. Your insides don’t exist as long as you don’t observe them. Your hunger exists, but your atoms don’t. We are at the center of the universe.
We collectively vote on what the reality is going to become, is the newtonian model correct, einsteinian, or string theory? Whichever we believe. As long as a theory explains all the observations, it can get chosen, and it is allowed to create new things to observe.
At the beginning, some people were stronger than others, they were called angels, gods, ghosts. They had superpowers, they could live forever, as long as other people wanted that. They had power struggles with each other. As the world globalised with the Assyrian and the Roman empires, Yahweh defeated all the others, though it was more like a triumverate, and Elohim later got upset, becoming Allah. As the world population increased, gods became unable to convince humans. And as Nieche said, god is dead, and we killed him. In the future, what the rules of physics be like in the other planets, what sorts of chemistries, minerals and biology they have will probably be decided without gods.
No because the universe was created 5 minutes ago with all our memories and sences as if it was 14 billions year old. Joking of course, the whole world is actually my dream and I’m just imagining all of you.
In the past, people observed the world to be flat, and now they observe it to be a globe.
There are 3 possibilities.
- It was flat in the past, globe right now.
- It was always a globe, the universe is 14 billion years old, what we see right now is the only truth, the universe doesn’t lie
- The universe is (insert here a time) 5 minutes old, the earth was a globe during the short amount of time it existed.
What would the occams razor say?
If the universe is 5 minutes old, why does it have to look like 14 billion years old? Why all the lies? Why would anyone feel the need to convince you to that?
If the earth was always a globe, why do the people in the past say its flat? Why would they collectively decide to pull a prank on future humans?
The simplest answer is to take it at face value. The world is 6000 something years old, there was a flood, etc, the old testament and the sumerians say that. And then the world changed. It started looking older.
People lived during that change,
and no one watched the earth from above. At least didn’t leave any pictures. So the modern people decided to not believe what the ancient people said.
If occams razor was true there would be nothing, the most simpliest condition of all. But that’s false, because I know that I exist.
Occams razor is “given the presence of multiple explanations, pick the simplest one”.
“There is nothing” isn’t an easy explanation to what we observe. Its just wrong. We don’t observe that.
It’s just more obvious than globe. But that’s not the only version people had a time and have today, just the most simpliest conclusion that even a child can derive from the fact that objects always fall down and don’t slide off flat surfaces
Why Christianity and not Buddhism, or Islam, or Hinduism, or Zoroastrianism, or Paganism, or Native American Animalism, or Esoteric Germanic Hyperborean Mysticism? Why can’t sacrifises to Moloch or Quetzalcōātl be true? Some of these beliefs are even older than Bible.
btw I’m not suggesting anything
oldest religion would be true. middle eastern religions are the oldest and they reference each other. oldest religion would bring the oldest information. before the flood and the creation, the earth could be a triangle, we wouldn’t know. its the continuity that matters.
This is a science misconception, right, right? Please say so.
This is getting very dangerously close to debating on which religion is the right one.
Why do you regularly have to make a post filled with the most unhinged non-science-supported claims possible? I know my tone is accusatory but I can’t help but wonder what to do with you…
It does matter however in what oldest people we believe. If we believe in other more ancient cultures than middle eastern or simply in what first cavements believed in then we can have other conception about the nature of the world.
Hinduism is also certainly older than Christianity, from what we observe with our sences at least, but that doesn’t mean it’s 100% right. And even if it is, why would it matter today? If universe changed to appear older, the physic laws from the past would not matter.
its more fun. its intellectual sport. thinking.
Occam’s razor is “Given multiple thesis whose likelyhood of bein true is roughly the same, pick the one that has the least amount of unfounded assumptions”.
You will soon be (at least temporarily) banned for trolling if you don’t stop, because I cannot tell if you just want to troll or actually believe what you wrote.
