Questions for the 0.8.0 release Thrivestream

Ask your pre-stream questions to be answered during the livestream here (maximum of 2 questions per person, please). We’ll answer as many questions as we have time for during the stream while also taking questions from the live chat (and answering the priority questions first). There is a limit per person to ensure that everyone will get their questions answered in case many people are interested in asking questions. VIP patrons can ask more questions in this thread.

  1. Why do strange versioning? You make release 0.8.0 that do not include minor features but releases fix version with minor feature?
  2. What do you imagine modding? Does you expect many mods for this game? Modding implementation so bad. Changing core code via some plugin looks like not secure and is not logical. Really, I don’t want to install any mods because I don’t know what this mod are doing, maybe he takes my passwords . I’m propose to you look at vintage story modding because this game wrote on c# too.

  1. How do you imagine the animal stage? Does it will be a clone of spore, where you travel on the planet and fights with another species?
  2. Cell stage continue around 2 hour of gameplay, I want to have similar time spending on intermediate stage (earlier multicellular), what do think about it?
  3. How detailed multicellular animal do you want? I mean does it will be an entity with HP and stamina or it will be composition of body parts.
  4. What about flowers with legs?
  5. I’m sure that this game can be more detailed. For example - for wearing a shell I should collect calcium or silicone. Ultraviolet kill you if you don’t have cell core. My question - do you want to make this game more detailed than now or current version detailed enough?

  1. What concept can you bring up for planet generator?
  2. Will you expand the customization of toxin. Allowing to create such thing as long-lasting, low damage medium range cloud, or very long range and long-lasting but almost no damage cloud. How are you going to expand the affection of toxin beside just being damage dealer?

I usually never post on the forums, though I figured I could try and bring up some questions.

  1. Given that V0.8 is complete in just two updates, do you believe that there would be one or two updates within 0.8.0 before 0.9.0 is released?
  2. What are you looking forward to in the year 2025? I heard that you are planning to mostly finish the Microbe stage by 1.0.0 and move on from it to work on the Multicellular stage. Do you think that you can finish most of the Microbe Stage before the end of that year? It may just well be the same question I asked above.

Why did @gamedungeon rejected this suggestion without stating any reason?

All the rejections have a reason. Only this one doesn’t.

How can you reject something if you don’t have any reason to do so?

Urination is a fact of life. Even microbes would do it. There’s going to be reproduction in the game. It should be okay for it to happen as long as its not happening in a human way. So, after nitrification and denitrification gets added, how nitrogen moves between cells should also be acknowlaged.

Nitrification is the burning of ammonia using oxygen.

And denitrification is the thing doomlightning was talking about

it is the using of the “soot” created in nitrification, rather than oxygen itself, to burn down glucose. It is an anaerobic respiration type.

“For example, assume 500 units of energy are produced by trophic level 1. One half of that is lost to non-predatory death, while the other half (250 units) is ingested by trophic level 2. One half of the amount ingested is expelled through defecation, leaving the other half (125 units) to be assimilated by the organism. Finally one half of the remaining energy is lost through respiration while the rest (63 units) is used for growth and reproduction.” Ecological efficiency - Wikipedia

As far as I see, there is just better documentation on Vintage Story, but no actual security sandboxing. Their C# code mods seem just as powerful as ours (though they have a more defined API). So installing code mods for VS seems just as unsafe as for Thrive. At least this is the closest info I found which seems to be what I expected (their code mods can be just as unsafe as ours). In summary our modding would be in as good place as VS if we had a few more step by step tutorials and a more defined modding API (which I haven’t really worked on as there aren’t any modders who would ask for more access to certain stuff so this is kind of a chicken and the egg problem).

We didn’t answer this as we don’t know and it didn’t look like you had any other question. I’ve pinged GameDungeon to ask for clarification and adding a close reason to that suggestion.

If anyone wants to reply to me about this / continue discussion please do so in the misc talk thread or start a new topic.
