Questions for the 0.8.3 release Thrivestream

Time for the usual thread for asking your pre-stream questions to be answered during the livestream (maximum of 2 questions per person, please). We’ll answer as many questions as we have time for during the stream while also taking questions from the live chat (and answering the priority questions first). There is a limit per person to ensure that everyone will get their questions answered in case many people are interested in asking questions. VIP patrons can ask more questions in this thread.

  1. Is 1.0.0/1.0 still conceivable within 2025 and if not, when do you expect it to be released now?
  2. How has the advanced planet generator (the one with terrain and stuff) progress been doing?

[Joke question.]

[That’s not even a question actually.]
The REAL question is: will there be a 3d model of a planet in the planet editor?

So here are my totally not so random questions. Ones that I feel could be asked that I think should be discussed in a livestream that aren’t always about updates.

  1. The achievements. This is going to be where I want to know where the behind the scenes discussion should go — not just “how is 1.0 going?” all the time. Are further microbial achievements going to be added soon or will these be it as we move into 0.9? What kind of references from the community or pop culture have been put on there?
  2. In a not so serious question or sort of serious question but one that will go down in the very far future at that point: What do you envision with Hexaquill merchandising or the mascot of Thrive as-is? A plushie? With enough backing, asides from production and delivery costs of potential merchandise (not just shirts or the aforementioned hypothetical plushie), do you see this being beneficial towards the development of the game or would crowdfunding through Patreon or sales of the game only matter?

There IS a “Basic” Planet Generator in this beta update. From the week before for the patrons who could play that. Grant it, it has few options, but I assume that’s because, at this point in the game, Thrive is only representing the microscopic world. I assume when the game expands to have land biomes, and later, to have moons, the planet generator will have a few more options added to it, but, for a purely microscopic world, its looks pretty good. It would be nice to see the “enable day/night cycle” button have a tidally locked planet option (half the surface has light always and half never), but I don’t mind waiting until after the macroscopic editor for that.

I recall there was supposed to be a more complex planet generator in the game relatively soon that would make the macroscopic land stages get procedural terrain, though I am not sure if it was planned for 1.0.0 or a later point.
I will modify my original question to reflect that

  1. How much more work does the membrane rebalancing feature need in order to be included in the game, since it seemed like that was originally going to be a part of 0.8.3.0?
  2. Are there eventually plans to add more membrane types in the future, like Glycerol ether membranes found in Archaea and Acidobacter, or the ability to modify membranes further?

  1. What’s the biggest thing being added in the coming update
  2. will there be any updates in the near future relating to the Macroscopic and Aware prototypes

  1. What is potentially the first post 1.0 update going to cover?
  2. Will we ever get a radio feature games like HOI4 have for Society State at least?

  1. At what stage will it be possible to attach to surfaces? After all, some unicellular and colonial organisms can do this.
  2. Can other organisms outrun mine in development? Could it be that I will be at the microbe stage and other organisms are already at the multicellular stage?

This has been debated many times, and is still being debated. It seems likely that a either A: they will not be allowed to pass you, or B: there will be setting at the start the game that lets you choose if you want that to be a possibility. In any event, it is decided A: the current team does not want to put the work into microscopic/macroscopic overlap, and B: there is no possibility of anything leaving its solar system or achieving Future Technological Level before you do. If it does eventually become a setting, it might be possible for AI to become multicellular before you and you being given a chance to catch up, or it might be a game over, depending on the options/your choice. Though in any event, the current AI does not know HOW to become multicellular, so until the AI gets improved, the only multicellular creatures will be yours and what evolved off of you.

Also, welcome to the forums, irika.
