Should Thrive have an AI usage statement?

Since Thrive development is using AI code review for helping with game development, should there be a statement about it in the description for the game? Maybe as a disclaimer on the download page, GitHub description, and on the Steam website? There are a lot of people out there who are anti-AI, so this move to use AI code reviews could affect the playerbase. I just want to make sure this does not negatively affect bringing in potentially new Players and purchases of Thrive.

Disclaiming it would be the honest option though it could also deprive us of some new players that we oh so need in those dire times this project is in

I don’t know if this is important, but Steamworks Development - AI Content on Steam - Steam News Also here’s a poll:

Should Thrive have an AI disclaimer?

I think that poll could benefit from being anonymous

Ok, I changed it to be anonymous, but you have to vote again.

Strangely enough it showed that I voted despite the poll being reset…

Only AI-generated content the player directly interacts with or sees (so textures, music, in-game text etc.) need a disclosure. These are not things we will be using generative AI for.

As for code review, it’s the least amount of AI you could even use. Like the only thing less AI I can think of is if someone uses per-line autocomplete. Like imagine if a human writes:

Remove(existingHexes[existingHexes

And then an AI suggests the end of the line to be (and the human accepts):

Remove(existingHexes[existingHexes.Count - 1]);

Is the project now made with AI and permanently tainted? I suppose the AI hater crowd will say yes even to that.

For the code review AI, it doesn’t make anything that goes into the game, it does the opposite: it tells humans they need to fix their bad programming before it is put into the game so that the game quality is better. And my mental energy is preserved for other things than doing endless PR reviews, because there weren’t 5+ experienced programmers ready to step up to spend a few hours per week reviewing Thrive PRs to help me out.

I suppose we’re fine putting no disclaimer in then

Good to know. This is why I made a thread to discuss this.

I suppose this thread is solved now then?
