this is a post about a simple idea with a lot of consequences, a social edit bar, ranging from “introverted/ reclusive” to “extroverted/ social”. the more social the species, the higher density you would find them in. cells/critters would try to stay 1 (their own creature length length) from others of their kind on max social. when a predator would approach a group, (if the creature is fearful) they would primarily they to avoid the predator, but secondarily try to move back within the comfortable distance to their buddy’s. if this works it could allow for some herding or schooling behaviors, allowing for viable non-spikey or toxic prey species. it does admit that this has some parallel with the cell messaging organelles, which is why i think this might only be introduced once in the multicellular stage. any other ideas?
