So, this thing has arisen in my mind while I was pondering on the inherit unnaturality of what the player does in Thrive. Basically, given that the player’s species does not undergo normal evolutionary processes, and the player’s cell moves as if it was sentient, I came up with the idea, that, in the game’s world, the player acts as a sort of a spiritual existence guiding it’s chosen species/exerting it’s will through it’s chosen species. The individual organism that the player controls acts as a direct manifestation of the player in the game’s world.
This general conception got further refined and altered after I read the plans for the Ascension Stage while translating. So, here’s the more refined version:
The player is a metaphysical entity trying to reach ascension, in order to achieve unlimited potential and be able to fully exercise its will onto the world. It does so through developing and indirectly controlling a species, guiding it toward the construction of an Ascension Gate. The individual organism controlled by the player is an incarnation of the entity in the game’s world. It could be viewed as sort of analogues to some conceptions about Jesus of Nazareth or Budda. The subsequent switch to controlling another organism following the death of such an incarnate can be seen as the entity possessing another member of the chosen species in order to keep directly manifesting itself in the physical world.
Sorry, if this is a mess. I was trying to comprehensively summarise what I had in mind, but given its not a complete, solidified concept, I ended up writing somewhat of a stream of conciseness.
