they are in the parantheses
Those arenât substages those are milestones. Substages have different mechanics. At most thatâs adding mechanics incrementally. This whole substage discussion doesnât make sense to me. If we add FTL splitting pre-FTL and post-FTL is reasonable, if we have a singularity having pre-signualarity and post-skynet is reasonable. Aside from that there are no mechanical changes and as such those are just milestones.
Guess it was just a case of insistent terminology

I guess i meant more of milestones than substages
As for me, it is better to divide it into 3 stages:
STL space exploration - Space, due to the high cost of space missions, is of only scientific interest, begins after the launch of the first rocket into space.
STL space colonization - Due to the space elevator or industry built in space, as well as improved technologies of spacecraft, space begins to represent a full-fledged economic and political interest, begins after the construction of a space elevator (or its analogue) or an industrial facility in space.
FTL - you have mastered the technology of faster-than-light travel, which has opened the way to interstellar colonization and science fiction technologies.
Are we sure near-ascended civs are the same substage as civs which have just barely left their star systems?
