For now, they will simply be able to feel and possibly temporarily control another creature. When we all eventually get nervous systems (or their equivalent), things will become more interesting.

3 Being very effiecient with food (so it can eat less for the same length of survival for instance)

Nevermind, lantian biota was just a fossil collection in china, (PDF) The Lantian Biota (蓝田生物群), so we should be able to pick any species in the early Ediacaran period (aprx. 602mya)

@aah31415 is right, we get a choice of either algae colonies or worm/coral creatures.

I’m choosing Lantianella laevis because it seems to be the only metazoan of the bunch and the most structurally advanced.

I wonder if anyone is going to evolve into a sentient plant? I am planning on becoming a sentient fungi, since Paleontologists are still not 100% sure of the nature of the Lantian biota.
