There has been a lot written here and I didn’t read all of it…
After seeing the first couple posts though I made sure RGSA is in Europe before I do anything. There are a ton of projects funded by the EU education-wise and if there is such a thing for general projects it may be a good choice for funding the first couple stages in an open-source manner and taking that as a base for further development. I’m looking into that on the side. first glance: no funding for general projects… there’s erasmus+ and all sorts of other stuff that couldn’t be applied to a modified version of the game (as it isn’t strictly for education)… but I can spend a couple more hours making sure (just looking up stuff).
I’d think we’d have applied for such a funding program by now is one was available for us with no major downsides to such a deal.
I am too fresh to this game to know. I don’t see it as wasted time even if it doesn’t exist. Because then I know
Also: maybe there have been changes… who knows. I’m certainly not keeping track of the EU that closely
Has anyone actually properly looked for all potential funding programs? Because I sure haven’t.
We’d only know about any relevant funding program existing if someone had told us about it.
If we did find such a funding program that wouldn’t come with a major catch for us (like “your game is now our property” or something), would we want to immedietly take the offer, especially considering the current financial status of the project?
Absolutely if we were qualified to apply for some funding program I think we should apply and see. From my understanding these types of government grants never ask for ownership of the end product, because that’s what investors do.
Hm. Hopefully such a fund would fully secure Thrive’s finanses for the time being (if not allow us even to get more part/full time employees).
Making it at the quality Spore’s one was would either bankrupt the project or take a LONG time.
Who would make it? If we had a really good looking trailer, we would absolutely post it everywhere we could. The limiting factor is someone making the trailer.
Kind of similar situation is people asking for an updated version of the Thrive history video, but everyone just talks about making it rather than recording the needed footage and editing it together.
Also I think the time for that will only come when 1.0.0 is done, and after that one could be made every development-focus-move update.
I played a lot of spore, and I have genuinely never seen that video before. That was awesome.
There is also an older trailer that released alongside spore.
I don’t think 1.0 coming out will have any effect on this. Of course I cannot know for certain but I would bet that the situation just continues like it is: people will still talk about how nice it would be to make such a video, especially with 1.0 out, but no one even then volunteers to make it.
Well once the community gets larger there is a high chance someone wishing to make such a video would learn about Thrive.
