Much lower risk, however the reward is publicity rather than straight cash. It seemed to have worked for Spore as it went viral from the pitch. The main issue is the creator(s) of Thrive would have to go to one of those pitch areas. I think the game could get some notable traction as people have sort of wanted a Spore “sequel” whether it be through inspired games or an actual official continuation.
I recall we dropped the “Spore 2” title quite some time ago now.
If we had even one people trying to spread the word about Thrive, that would already make a huge impact on our funding situation, as even convincing a single Youtuber with reasonable amount of subs to play Thrive causes a massive sales spike.
I think a good pitch at some type of game expo could bring up the sales and pledges tremendously, Thrive could stick out among the other “fish in the pond” with its concept. It’s something I’m sure many people would want to see considering how many videos there are on YouTube of people pretty desperate for a good evolution simulator.
How the pitch could work is that there could be a slideshow detailing the history of the game, what the devs have accomplished so far and what the later stages of the game could look like. There could be some pre-recorded footage of the Microbe stage and its Auto-Evo properties (the most impressive part of Thrive thus far).
I think it could be more effective than the Kick starter.
But who would be the one to show up at the expo representing Thrive?
I think hhyrylainen would be the representative. The slideshow could be created by other people online and submitted so the best one could be picked out.
You could make an announcement in the discord and whoever has the best footage of what Thrive has done so far could be picked and it could be shown in the pitch. So if they are asking for “footage of photosynthetic game play” people could record their game play and the favourable one could be picked out.
The “reward” for having your footage shown at the pitch could be your online username (or name, if provided like in my case) attached at the end of the slideshow.
There is no such person around anymore
Then the main dev could be the one there.
That would be Hhyyrylainen then.
I was planning on typing “Hhyyrylainen” but I wasn’t sure.
Anyways, I think the hardest part of pitching would simply just be waiting for the next expo and someone getting out of their house (gasp) and going there to pitch it.
The presentation should be relatively easy as it could be either made from community submissions (as I said) or recorded by devs within a couple hours. The hardest part of the presentation would be the script, I think concept art should also be presented in the pitch as well.
How much time do you think would getting all things done for this expo and the expo itself take?
Suppose the community has a week straight to submit their game footage, the best ones are picked out and put into a presentation. The presentation could be made over the span of a couple hours depending on the writing speed of the person making it. We could use concept art already made before, although creating concept art for the later stage gameplay would be nice. I think it would take 1-2 weeks to clobber it together, most of the time spent by people making submissions. The expo presentation itself could be anywhere between 30 minutes to an hour long.
What do you think are our chances at atleast meeting our barest goals for the expo?
What is this expo and how do we qualify for it?
The last time someone suggested to get into an expo it was purely for Sonic (or related) fangames. And an evolution simulator was obviously not qualified whatsoever to be included in such a showcase of different games.
that’s super funny, i need to see sonic in thrive now lol
It’d need to be playermade since autoevo would never push a small omnivore for such an agility.
I also want to know which expo Thrive would be good in. Like the Simulator Game Expo coming up this year?
Evolution games have fallen off significantly since Spore, so we’d need to choose for a category like this one. Simulation is probably close atleast.
@hhyyrylainen would this be a good fit? The game is an evolution simulator so it would apply I believe.
When’s it happening anyways?
(Not addressed to HYRL)
?? You are the one suggesting stuff.
I don’t appreciate having extra work forced on me based on a quick look at stuff without even confirming it is a viable thing to do for Thrive…
