The grand galaxy of Darkrest

Sorry if this has been done before
The year is 2999, and somehow, someway, you got off your home planet…
And now that you have ascended beyond the skies, you, and maybe all life, cannot help but wonder at what lies beyond…

Gameplay and making a planet
Science or magic

At the beginning of making a world, you must decide between two forces of power, Magic and Science. If you choose one you forfeit the other, choosing Magic will hold your Science at a medieval level. Choosing Science completely stops you from using Magic. And if you use Science you will start at a level equal to a type 1 civilization
note: by Science I more mean technology, a Magic civilization may know the laws of physics better than modern earth, but not how to apply them

Techology/Spell design

Once you have decided on Magic or Science, you must now design either 10 powerful inventions or 10 powerful spells, along with modern inventions and some form of travel(Limited teleportation for Magic and Space Travel for Science both are limited at one square per round to start out, Technologies/Spells can be Improved but it will cost the amount that they cost to build/cast

Technology/Spell template

Name: The name of your Technology/Spell

Description: What the Technology/Spell does

Cost: Decided by me, how much Tech points/ Magic points(detailed later on) a Technology/Spell does, higher powered Technologies/Spells cost more tech/magic points

Type: any type you can think of E.G Destructive, Healing, Robotic, Travel, or something

Planet creation

Your planet is obviously one of the most important factors in creating a world, first you should design your Solar system.
Solar system template:
Galactic coordinates: Where your solar system places in the 24x24 galaxy

Star color: The color of your star, if it’s binary, make two star colors.

Solar system details: Does your solar system have many meteors? maybe tiny black holes? any other details can be here.

Other planets: how many planets besides your own exist in your solar system.
Home Planet name: the name of your home planet.

Home planet details: Does your planet have rings? Meteors? a vast desert? Something else? any other details are allowed.

Other Planet name(optional): the name of other planets in your solar system. Use multiple times for every non home planets.

[INSERT OTHER PLANET NAME] details(Optional): The details of other planets in your solar system. Use multiple times for every non home planets.

Species creation

The logical next step is to create some species to inhabit your planet. Your planet can have one or more species, and you can optionally make other, non sapient life forms
all you need to do is detail your species’ appearance, try to make your species balanced and of about human proportions, or if you use Science you could have a tiny species in human sized robots for no additional tech cost. Also give your species similar thinking, senses, and power as humans.

Government design

How will your government(s?) and culture(s?) be designed? You must have something helping your planet work together as one however such as a one world government, one powerful nation controlling all, or a united nations.

Government/culture template(Optional)

Rulership: Who ascends to power? will you be a Monarchy? Democracy? Dictatorship? or something else?

Architecture: What do buildings look like?

Economy: Socialist, Capitalist, or Mixed Economy?

Round structure

Everybody has the same options, you can either travel at a starting speed of one square per turn although it can increase with certain Technologies or Spells, You can claim a system that is not already owned, Make communications with another empire(Only if your borders are touching or you have the correct Technologies/Spells to communicate over a very long distance), declare war(only if communications are active), surprise attack an enemy planet, or make a Technology/Spell. Being in war adds more turns: Attack(Uses weaponry, of course) Retreat, and end war

Lore bit: the Gods

the Gods are immaterial beings that create Magic, they only appear on Magic worlds, and they can use spells at will, take away Magic, however, they can only cast spells within their home planet, however they can protect their home planet with Magic defenses. Moreover, the Gods will leave if a Science based civilization appears. Also I am a god on a galactic scale but I will not interfere. There may be a third kind of God but you will have to discover that yourself in this game.

Once you have created your civilization you may submit your application, application ends June 13th 12:00 Am
Map:

edit: I forgot, but you earn 10 tech/magic points per round

Seems nice. I’ll submit my stuff soon.
What is that golden ring in the center of the galacy?

A black hole’s accretion disk , I might’ve made it too big

Force: Science

Tech

Spinning-ring powered engines: Self explanatory. Can go real fast.

Gravity emulators: Also self explanatory.

Interstellar missiles: Goes at a planet really fast. Burns up in the atmosphere, causing it to heat up and fry everything on the planet.

Controllable nanobots: Eats up a planet’s resources.

Antimatter explosives: Big boom, big destruction.

Elemental sythesis: Create a new element that has whatever properties you want.

Stellar altering: Add or remove mass from a star, split it in two, whatever.

Planetary altering: Like stellar altering, but for planets.

Schwarszchild harvesters: Get energy from the rotation of black holes.

Camo-torpedoes: Torpedoes that automatically change their outside design to blend in with their surroundings.

Stellar location: 13,9

Star color: Orange, due to K type

Solar system details: Lots of eccentric planets on the outside. Dense asteroid belt.

Other planets: Really close one to the sun, habitable planet a bit close to the sun, gas giant, ice giant, mega-pluto

Home planet name: Klevari

Details: Cold but habitable world. Thick ice sheets above the tropics.

Species: Klavies. Has a demogorgon-y mouth, 4 legs for walking, and 2 arms. Originally a fierce predator, it now is a highly technology-based society.

Government: Democratic socialism

Architecture: Whatever the architects find cool. Boxes, rectangles, balls, whatever.

Economy: Mixed

also I forgot to mention you get 10 tech/magic points per round
By the way what system are you using for your location, it looks like right ascension+declination or am I making a mistake?
so would you be around the top left spiral?

I’ll have it be faster than starting travel speed.

Also 13 is x-axis, 9 is y-axis. Right ascension.

Is the area around the center a dead zone like the southern strip?

That’s supposed to be a supermassive black hole, again I might have made it too big.

Because I was too lazy to fill certain individual parts with white or purple to make a white background, and it defaults to black

Why are some areas beyond the “body” of the galaxy but still within the halo also black?
Also please do not doublepost, you can edit your later post into your former one and then remove the later one.

I will eventually post my stuff.

What is the difference between the blue areas and the white areas around them? I presume blue is the galaxy proper and white is intergalactic void?

Spells

Their FTL transport method is basic teleportation, do I understand correctly that this doesn’t count as one of my 10 spells?

Create Pocket Dimension: creates a spherical, empty pocket dimension with no gravity and a radius of about 10km. Includes a movable doorway to the outside world.

Create Doorway: opens up a new doorway to any pocket dimension at the current location of the caster. Allows for pocket dimensions to effectively function as portals between any locations that people have already visited. Any doorway can be closed as long as there is at least one other doorway to the pocket dimension.

Expand Pocket Dimension: self explanatory.

Gravitate: creates a massive spherical gravity field that only affects what the casters want it to. Not able to be used somewhere where there is already noticeable gravity.

Barrier Projection: allows casters to make magical barriers that are semi-transparent and completely airtight. They can last for a long but limited time without casters upholding the spell. People can pass straight through a barrier if given permission by the caster.

Wild Growth: casters can make any lifeform grow and heal much faster than normal, without the resources it would normally need to do so. Useful especially for crop growth.

Alter Flora: creates a new breed of a plant with altered properties, such as being as strong as steel or growing unimaginably tall.

Ravenous Consumption: rapidly destroys massive amounts of non-living material to generate magical energy. Can consume up to a small moon if enough casters are focused on it. (This gives me more magic points for the next turn proportional to how much matter I sacrifice, let me know if this seems unbalanced and it should have more limitations)

Psychic Soothing: makes a population temporarily more content with any situation.

Psychic Guidance: subconsciously directs people towards what will let them achieve their goals. Can do things such as subtly let miners know where they should mine to find lots of material or guide astronomers to habitable or resource-rich planets.

Planet and Solar System

Coordinates: D5.
Star color: orange (K-type).
System Details: planets in the system have many more moons than usual, its star is unusually inactive.
Other Planets: 12 (8 are gas giants).
Home Planet Name: Raquam Nuru
Home Planet Details: land covered in dense jungle, temperate forests at the poles, 67% water coverage, frequent rain.

Species and Government

Species: The Nara
The Nara are a species of pitch black spider-like individuals, but interestingly, they are herbivores. They have no distinction between hands or feet, as they can use small claws on all legs for both grabbing and walking. They have similar psychology to humans, but care even more about the collective survival of their species above all else.

Government: The Federated States of Araro
The Federated States of Araro is a loose federation of small direct democracies, with mostly socialist economies. Their architecture commonly is made up of stone pyramids tightly fit together to form large complexes, with the planet’s strong trees often built into supporting structures.

How does economy impact one by the way GM?

i’m guessing magitech (things made to exploit the rules of magic like regular technology exploits physics) isn’t gonna be a thing?
and what level of exploitation of magic or physics would constitute as technology?
and can we use variations of things that humanity has created for the technologies?
and can i include an explanation of how the technology works?

It was said magic tech would be limited to medieval levels.

that still doesn’t say what points at which the tech tree stops
we had metalworking well before the medieval age, and metal pipes, and could make steam engines(the aeolipile was invented in the last century BCE, and it uses brass tubes to spin itself using the boiling of water caused by the heat from fire), but only did as toys, and most of the stuff we use in modern technology except stuff about electricity and molecular science and below was known during or before the medieval age, but even then, with even just simple metalworking you can make thick wires, and if your star system has a magnetar, that basically gives you free electricity due to the extremely strong, rapidly alternating magnetic feild
so how exactly is “medieval levels” defined
by what we could have by the medieval age irl, in that star system, or by what we did have by then
we could have had a create style(using spinning rods to transport power instead of wires) industrial revolution by the 100s, but we didn’t because humans aren’t exactly good at figuring out that stuff we use as toys is useful for other things

Wouldn’t steel be better for actually paying off early industrial machines?

sure, but only if iron and carbon are the most abundant things you can find, however, steel isn’t exactly easily workable without a propane forge or automatic bellows driven by something that rotates and a lot of coal
however, there are plenty of natural gas seeps, but using those for all your forges limits you a lot, since you have to find an eternal flame for every forge you build, which significantly limits output, so brass being easier to work makes it better for this

Honestly whatever you come up with will probably get “patched” by illtry when he comes back around.
