one of the first things introduced in HGTTG, it lets you understand every language.
not just of your species, in existence.
it does so by translating it to your language iirc

no, but there’s actually a plot element that would make it logically not make sense if it were, since it means every retelling of the story should be a different story that just has the same characters and the same main plot
