It was thought that photosynthetic bacteria fixed carbon on the photic zone and this biomass only reached the deeper parts of the ocean if they died and sinked, creating the marine snow.
Researchers working in the mediterranian have found living bacteria that were thought to be too buoyant to get below 100 meters. 200 meters below the surface, the microbiome was exactly the same as the one on the surface. A type of convection current called “intrusion” causes this. This is common in the subtropical regions and it can get more deeper than 200 meters.

I was testing engulfing tutorial thing earlier and to trigger it I was spawning AI cells on the fly with engulf mode on, engulfing them a few moments later… Horrifying… I had to do this many times…
