To top it off, our current government wants to force English universities (McGill, Concordia) to have 30% of their classes be held in French. What a :belgium:ing bunch of chauvinists!

Imagine when we humans colonize Mars. Some people there will claim that Mars is flat!

This is actually an event that can occur in the game Surviving Mars.

What is everyone’s favorite continent? (Note: A majority of Geologists have moved away from the idea of Europe being an actual continent in the true Geological sense, as the idea persisted due to antiquated cultural beliefs of European superiority, and they instead assign it based on correct Geology as a peninsula of Eurasia).

  • Eurasia

  • Antarctica

I don’t think zealandia is a continent through? It doesn’t even have it’s own plate.

Geologist have four criteria:

  1. Elevation – The landmass, whether dry or submerged beneath the ocean, should be elevated above the surrounding ocean crust.
  2. Geology – The landmass should contain different types of rock: igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary.
  3. Crustal structure – The landmass should consist of the [continental crust]
(Continental crust - Wikipedia), which is thicker and has a lower seismic velocity than the oceanic crust.
  4. Limits and area – The landmass should have clearly defined boundaries and an area of more than one million square kilometres.[a]

Note that being located on different tectonic plates is not a requirement, only having clearly defined boundaries.

Shouldn’t the Kerguelen Plateou also be a continent then? Pretty sure Zealandia isn’t the sole “sunken” continent…

It is called a “micro-continent” or continental fragment rather than a proper continent.

Basically, it has to do with size. Also, it does not have pre-cambrian rocks (over 2 BYA), which is another requirement for Geological continent, implicit under types of rock.

Isn’t Eurasia and Africa the same landmass?

Geologically speaking, no. The rocks are distinct, and there are clear divisions. In tens of millions of years from now, Eurasia-Africa will be a thing in all future-model predictions.
