THE NEW Miscellaneous Talk That Doesn't Deserve A New Thread Thread Thread (Part 2)

I wonder how will “Planimals” be handled in-game…

huh like plant and animal hybrids?
that’d be interesting, making things like a Photovore similar to Creatures of Sonaria that moves around to drink water and can survive with just sunlight.

Then it’d be expected for such a planimal species to eventually settle down near water sources and just become a regular-ish plant species…

well if you can move around you can avoid getting eaten by herbivores, and place your seeds on good spots unlike still plants

I guess so, but still such a species would have much less of a reason to go for sapience than a regular animal-like species…

Well if it’s an auto evo species then it dosent matter if it becomes sapient or not, and if the player is the one playing as a planimal, im pretty sure they can become sapient if the planimal has a nervous system.

More problems arise if we’re talking about player controlling a plant. On one hand plants are absolutely not capable of developing brain-like structures, and at the other a player could command their plant species to do that anyways even if that’s an inconvenience for them all the way until sapience is attained.

Well with planimals i mostly imagined like a regular animal that mostly uses sunlight for it’s nutrients, and drinks water, Not a plant that learned how to walk.
It’d be like a cell in microbe stage that has chloroplasts, but still eats glucose or other cells and dosent act like a plant cell.

Pretty sure the main reason “planimal cells” are possible at the present is that there isn’t much of a way to control your base metabolism, which led to the atmospheres being oversaturated with CO2, which’s levels are extremely high on in-game planets when compared with Earth for example.

I wonder if it’s possible to ascend as a Radiotroph species :disturbing:

It certainly won’t be easy, as radioactive chunks only spawn in the vents and the caves at the present, and it would also be a challenge to sustain a sapient creature off them.

what if you make a planet with no ozone layer or magnetosphere to block of the sun’s radiation? Like that you can eat the radiation from the sun.

(although this could just lead to a radiation eating plant, or everything dying out)

This because with no magnetosphere the atmosphere would be blown off, leaving no oxygen (which is rather required for metallurgy and stuff).

oh okay then, let’s say no ozone layer but there is a magnetosphere

Ozone tends to form once oxygen levels rise. Which again leaves us with little to no oxygen for metallurgy. That is unless your radiothropic species develops sapience quickly enough that not much oxygen has been produced yet, but still enough for metallurgy to be possible, and yet too early for an ozone layer to have formed (not sure if that’s possible through).

well if they grow sapient fast enough they could eventually figure out how to make it so there’s lots of radiation (either via nukes or something else)

They still need ways of becoming spacefaring through.

What species will you make when thrive is (eventually) finished?

Probably going to port Volarae/Hexapinna in some way or another. Through in a form which evolves sapience of course, as it sadly hasn’t occured in any FG I tried raising it in yet…

I do believe there is a thread for it…Describe possible creatures. Unless this is not what you are looking for…
