Probably. Language and Cultural differences, while they can divide us, also add to the greater diversity of different perspectives.

Would the dialects be shepherded away from developing into new languages?

I don’t know. Like how English is commonly spoken internationally, but other native languages within their countries are still spoken and persist?

Also it can be assumed some things would need to happen before the one language can be created.

i really like how interlingua does it, since you have a bunch of languages mixed in one, and your brain does the job on the understanding part.
maybe we could have a language to every region of earth? (that share similar language roots)

indoeuropean i think it would be too big for it… but like, in latin america we have a kinda regional interlingua already, for when the spanish and portuguese (…yeah, just the brazillians are included) speakers need to interact. it is called portunhol and you learn it by having to speak to the opposite language speaker.

We could keep all languages and determine English (the lingua franca) as the common language for politics & science.
