A recent genetic study focusing on whole genomes of bacteria found in West Antarctic lakes has revealed that these microorganisms were likely on polar-bound continent over 30 million years ago. This upends the hypothesis that the bacteria came from intruding sea water over 6,000 year ago. Also, these bacteria are highly metabolic diverse and metabolically flexible, able to live in aerobic conditions, anaerobic conditions, absorb carbon from other dead organics, or they can capture CO2 with Sulfur or Iron.

They need to be in order to survive. So being highly mixotropic is very much possible in reality, although probably rare.
