THE NEW Miscellaneous Talk That Doesn't Deserve A New Thread Thread Thread (Part 3)

Pretty sure some areas also had symbols associated with them, not as flags of coats/seals

Like seals (not the animal) for towns/cities, such as the one for Burnsville, NC?

Btw why did you edit this out of the flag list post and make this a new post?

It did not show up for me on my end for some reason.

I see, thought it was something more malicious

greeks armenians and ethiopians are all famously very christian, and weird eastern varieties at that, it makes total sense for them to work together. historically, Persia wasnโ€™t notably horrid to Jewish ppl, at least at that point. If i were a jew in that weird in-between era I would want out of europe if possible. Chrisianity was horribly antisemitic for a longggg time and itโ€™s still quite bad.

Am I the only one who thinks doomlightningโ€™s new pfp kind of looks like the Yin-Yang Symbol?

I think it might just be a coincidence it looks a bit like that, since doom usually sketches with only white and black colors

Technically the string of wars were started by the king of Jewish Yemen (Himyar) persecuting Christians living there which then caused the Ethiopians (Aksumites) to invade the place along with the Byzantines and Armenians. The place was annexed by the Ethiopians which then caused the Jews living in Yemen to go to Iran (Sassanians) to ask for help.

There would then be wars between the Ethiopians and Iranians until the Iranians won and annexed Yemen, which the Ethiopians did not like.

It started off with a minor religious conflict and basically snowballed into โ€œokay but I want that placeโ€

Talk about escalation

I suppose with the rise of Islam this sort of conflict died down in the region

After the rise of Islam, basically all of these empires were either destroyed or vastly weakened.

Sassanids were conquested.
Byzantines were VASTLY weakened and reduced to another kingdom (and then destroyed fully by the ottomans)
Himyar was already annexed by the Iranians and Ethiopians but with the arrival of Islam they got absorbed into the caliphate.
Aksumโ€™s navy was completely destroyed and the Ethiopians were isolated from Europe which caused them to technologically stagnate, where theyโ€™d then be landlocked again by the ottomans and stagnate more.

So were they in stagnation for like over a millenium?

The Deckard did not come out today. However, I learned something useful.

https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamFrame/comments/1qj7rmy/remember_we_will_see_games_get_labeled_as_steam/

That means it wonโ€™t get released until we see those labels.

When do you bet it will release now?

The day isnโ€™t entirely over yet depending on what timezone the deckard is being developed in

Well for me it would have already been the day after BJSes prediction

genuinely useful information for consumers, iโ€™d consider a steam frame if it supports most of my library (and is cheaper than i have money). If the open source community can get the arm-based steamOS and emulation layer running on other arm devices, that would BELGIUMING RULE, and I will be very disappointed in my phoneโ€™s silly non adreno GPU

didnโ€™t stop them from completely resisting European conquest (brief Mussolini-shaped exception, but genuinely so brief itโ€™s still really impressive to stave off colonization so well)

Itโ€™d only be released at 10 AM PST, which is when Valve employees allegedly start working.

Either at the end of January or mid-February.
