Yes, you can do that. What that will do is you get all of their technology, but they still get to exist. It also allows you to have a different personality if, for example, you don’t want to be a civilization of raiders, but you still want to establish there.

i have a major trade route, but it trades honey and horses, not silk.
Silk originated in Kugelland (Upper Austria I believe), and Mongolia stole the silk spiders (Which he did not try, I was the RNGods who did that), but there’s no major silk route after the Mongolians stole the silk spider
Pumpkin is making a soup cure for the Kugelland plague, if he gets it in one turn I’ll be angy because I spent about 3 turns in a cure

so, i am very lonely, as the closest person to me is canada ( i think) and i cant reach them. also, all of my allies are far away, and i have no allies close by. Asia is largely uninhabited, allowing you to expand more than many other places.
Yeah but also distance does not really matter in this game really
