Thrive Evolution Screensaver (aquarium mode)

I think it would be cool to have some sort of screensaver type view of thrive’s evolution. I think most of the code necessary for this is already in place. I think it would make a nice little addition as I like watching the auto-evo cells evolve and compete with each other.

I couldn’t find an existing thread about this exactly, but I’ve talked about a feature like this at least a little bit on the past:

Post-game simulating

This could be added. I’ve been thinking about adding a similar feature. I’d call it something like aquarium mode or something. It would basically let you “play” the game in spectator mode and just see what’s going on.

Lithospheric Plates and Simulation Mode

I don’t think that’s an officially planned feature… Totally agree. Though someone might want to implement an “aquarium” mode even for the current stages where you just watch. As it is just an extra thing it won’t be any kind of priority to add to the game.

Pretty sure there are already mods in place adding the aquarium/spectator mode.

And I’m almost 100% certain that those mods have not been updated for 0.8.0 and will not work anymore.

I was gonna say the same thing lol. It’s kinda sad older mods stop being useful. Hopefully we could get a more futureproof mod that supports multicellular someday.

Yeah, like one that allows the autoevo to develop multicellular life

I might recall there was once a mod which added primitive autoevo to early multicellular, but I might be remembering stuff wrong.

Imagine if someone came up with an Aquarium Mode screensaver that also ran auto-evo in the background. Then you could jump in at some point as one of the auto-evo cells if you wanted to play your Aquarium Mode save.

You’d still need to choose which patch to observe I guess. Perhaps after some time you’d start seeing multicellular creatures after we’ve come to that point in development…
