Thank you. It looks like I already edited the playing text but it doesn’t seem to update it on the launcher.
The last launcher release was at the start of the year so no new changes that have been made after that are in the launcher. I haven’t been motivated to do any work on the launcher since I haven’t been able to debug it in my IDE due to this: https://youtrack.jetbrains.com/issue/RIDER-89496/Rider-debugger-gets-stuck-at-Initializing-debugger-when-trying-to-debug-a-specific-project (I’d appreciate if anyone with a Jetbrains account could upvote that bug report)
Edit: it suddenly started working so I’ve now made a new launcher 2.1.0 version. So @punctdan your latest translations should now be in the latest launcher release version to see how they look.

Weblate has been extra broken lately. I’ve recently reported this bug:
But it seems like Weblate just keeps having bugs no matter how many things I report are fixed.
With the soon-ish to come main website rework, I’ve been considering of replacing Weblate with a custom basic tool that only supports our translation core workflow, but without all of the bugs that Weblate has with it causing problems for me each week.
Translation file links in Weblate no longer work. The location of locales should be “Thrive/locale at master · Revolutionary-Games/Thrive · GitHub”.
Fixed the setting in Weblate. The links now work but apparently they never point to the right line. Also the reference lines have been broken since Switched to not including reference lines in translation files by hhyyrylainen · Pull Request #4808 · Revolutionary-Games/Thrive · GitHub It’d be nice to have enough time one day to write a custom translation tool that would work well and without all the bugs Weblate has.
I encountered the word “miche” but I have no idea how to translate it into a single word. It sounds like “niche” which means “niş” in my language. As the definition is close enough, I thought about translating “miche” as “miş”. But this is not a real word. Should I keep “miche” as it is?
I am fairly sure that “miche” is a word made by our developers, considering that in real life it apparently translates to this:
“In Europe, mostly in France, Miche refers to a large loaf of country bread, specifically sourdough”
So perhaps we should keep it as “miche” in all languages possible.
Yeah, I thought that definition was funny. But it would be nice to see that all game-specific terms were clearly explained in Thriveopedia.
I added a translation dictionary entry for it. It is basically a term derived from niche, but the name doesn’t really mean anything and ultimately isn’t really related anymore to how it was derived. It is kind of like a niche but it is basically a food source, evolutionary pressure and sub-miches all rolled into one.
Hey , is this “Transforming into a society…” used here as a active verb like “Now you are transforming into society.”
Or is this like a topic " Transforming into a society was hard because primative…"
which one is used in this context ?
And also is there any way to change template language in weblate ?
Like I want to use Turkish to Tatar rather then English to Tatar does anybody knows that if its possible ?
It means that the player is transforming themselves into a society. So the first interpretation is correct.
I don’t think that is possible, but maybe with the other languages tab you could see those other translations as you navigate through the translations.
I’ve been thinking about replacing Weblate with a simpler tool that would cause less commit issues, but such a thing also very likely wouldn’t have a feature like this.
What sort of weblate replacements have you found so far?
One that I would write myself. The way I see it it needs just a few key features:
- A way to manage languages list (probably be admin-only, we don’t get that many new languages being started these days)
- Reading Thrive repo when new commits come in
- Extracting text and detecting changes in English text and then cascading changes to other languages
- Allowing users to translate texts
- A dictionary feature for translation-only stuff
- Translation text additional context information
- And then some nice to haves like comments on translations or languages (this would actually be an improvement compared to Weblate)
- And finally some code to push changes to github as PRs. This is the worst working part of Weblate as I basically each week need to take multiple extra minutes to fix stuff after merging Weblate changes.
So I’d be looking at doing probably multiple weeks of evenings of work to solve a problem that causes me like 15 minutes of lost Thrive development time each week. Of course that time doesn’t count silly stuff that Weblate allows like people marking English text as incorrect or adding nonsensical dictionary entries to the English dictionary I need to clean up (these cause even more lost development time and annoyance with Weblate).
Will the weblate translations be ported over or will they be made from scratch?
All translations are stored in the game, so deleting Weblate data would only lose the comments and word dictionary, the translations themselves are safely stored in the main game repo. Though, I think at least the comments would warrant porting over to not lose some important information that future translators would need.
Would the porting of these comments cause much trouble or would it be easy to carry out?
