think about it: whatโs more profitable, letting people make unhinged stuff, or regulating them? regulation is expensive. Letting people make stuff that targets kids actually just gets you a very receptive demographic to sell ad slots targeting.

youtube is a monopoly. Iโm sorry but no one is using vimeo. (in fact the only reason theyโd use it is because youtube banned them. the best way to gain market share is to let people be worse actually)
tiktok and instagram are close enough to the only others who even have their own servers, and they have already scared a lot of people away with the rampant censorship (shadowbanning and the partially legitimate reasons people say unalive) they probably canโt afford to loose anyone else, and itโs easier to let people tell the algorithm โthat was weird I hate itโ than it is to prevent you from putting stuff in there. Youtube cannot be taken down. How would that work? Youโd need a decade to build up videos as the underdog, how are you supposed to fund harsher regulation? Youโll definitely scare away a lot of people if you regulate all that much more than youtube (ASMR gets pretty creepy, political content has strong defenders even when itโs saying truly wild things, same with politically incorrect jokes and such).. Youโd only get anyone by letting ppl do something youtube doesnโt, and youโd never get everyone.
