Werenโ€™t they beloved a couple years back? Eh, I suppose corruption gets to people at different paces and timesโ€ฆ

Forget โ€œPower Corrupts Allโ€. It is more like โ€œTime Corrupts Allโ€.

Or maybe both are true in a way?

Power donโ€™t corrupt, it reveals. What did it reveal? Publically trades companies cannot, will not, and would prefer not to ever care about people, sanity, principles, quality, or anything else, more than money. Microtransactions make bank. Anything officially said on the matter is either BS reasoning for why they donโ€™t reduce quality, or honest explanations of how they make more money, or very, very rarely, a cloaked truth about how consumer hatred and backlash means itโ€™s more profitable to slow down and be a bit more sane while looking for alternative ways to drain money out of people

Thankfully Thrive, under RG, shouldnโ€™t have to worry about such dangersโ€ฆ

Open source is so cool lol (and even when profit-driven companies build open source stuff it still usually helps more than it hurts)

I wonder how different would the devteam be if RG was legally allowed to finance itโ€™s employees 100% from donationsโ€ฆ

Is the current donation amount enough to do that?

You mean enough to sustain Hhyyrylainen?

No. All the developers.

I suppose we would lose some money for the devs relatively if we switched to donations-only nowโ€ฆ

Imagine steam makes itโ€™s own pay service to undermine this sort of censorshipโ€ฆ

I mean, IIRC, Steam cash canโ€™t be withdrawn from your account, so they could realistically make that a thing.

By making it withdrawable?

Yeah, definitely. Wonder what it would be calledโ€ฆ SteamPay? ProtonPay?

I think steampay would make the most sense but they could decide otherwiseโ€ฆ
