yeah pretty much. steam is having similar issues too. Donโt blame itch. The real threat is payment processors. Call up yours and tell them they shouldnโt regulate payments and should let us use ours for whatever we want (if you didnโt know, itch isnโt deleting peopleโs stuff because theyโre evil, theyโre doing it because if they donโt payment processors will refuse ALL payments to itch, and the few employees there would prefer a bad platform with few games to no platform with no games). If possible though, the more places people can pay for thrive, the better, the less we rely on any one platform.

Or better yet, try collectively ditching these payment processors.

how??? what else do we have? Mail order? Crypto? The gold standard? The real joke is the latter two have actual advocates but the first one is the only one we could actually use.

Iโve seen a lot of people saying that we should abandon the two payment processors behind this all so I just assumed they were right. I suppose I shouldโve dug below the surface of these messages firstโฆ

I mean, we can and should prefer non-invasive payment methods but as far as credit and debit go, which are VERY dominant for much of the world, we are better off with two competing companies than with either a monopoly, or using any of the really bad alternatives. I was exaggerating with the examples I gave, I belive venmo and all of the chinese payment processors are reasonably independant, if not maybe also paypal (paypal already has a history of blocking payments and was working with mastercard for a while, i forget why), however they all have at least as many issues as using the payment processors weโre used to.

Wonder if a steam-backed alternative could turn out wellโฆ
