You design life and a system

What is an “other” star system? Like a trinary+?

Well, it has many options.

  1. Multiple star system
  2. Black hole
  3. White dwarf
  4. Brown dwarf

I think the poll is broken now?

The votes are complete, it was decided to have a binary star system. This is the first star’s poll

  • Class F (brighter)
  • Class G (like the sun)
  • Class K (much dimmer and colder)
  • Class M (very long lifespans but dim)

Aren’t red dwarfs generally considered bad for life nowadays?

The chances of life in red dwarfs are slim, but never zero.

Solar flares will make work of the planets’ atmospheres

But what abou the other star?
Does it manage to curb the solar flares?
And what about life on moons that orbit on gas giants?

Also what happens when options tie continuesly?

I’ll just close them, ending the vote prematurely.

So the faster to vote wins then?

No, if the option is bigger than any other options, it wins. (For example: 1st: 60% > 2nd: 40% = win for 1st option)

I see. Also, I presume class F will require the system to act as if it has a shorter lifespan, correct?

I don’t know, but maybe a yes.

I hope we won’t just super-optimize the system so that a future civ would have an easy job extracting resources and stuff from it

The votes are complete, it seems that the G class option is didn’t have any votes with it, K and M classes for a short time where tied but the K class option soon came out on top, this is the second star’s option.

  • Class F
  • Class G
  • Class K
  • Class M

by the way are these binaries like mercury-orbit distance from eachother or are they like the alpha centauri - proxima centauri system?

We’ll decide it by a poll.

I see. I presume we won’t need to specify where in the galaxy will this system be at?

Yes, thus not needing more polls, saving time for our planets.
