Best Ideas for Microbe Stage Achievements

Not sure if that wouldn’t be too simple of an achievement to achieve…

Many games have simple achievements to detect who has actually played the game for a few minutes at least. So I think actually we should have an achievement for editing your species for the first time in the editor.

I see. I guess we could also add some achievements for the different possible lifestyles a player can make their species take.

What percentage of the achievements should be gameplay progress achievements and what percentage should be optional lifestyles? 50-50?

Seems like a good split, though not sure where would we put the two achievements besides first editor, nucleus and multicell…

I think progress achievements should be less than 20% of the total number. Because otherwise we’d have a really low number of achievements as I think we’ll have 1 to 2 progress achievements per stage so that’s less than 15 in total.

So I guess then for microbe that could be first editor and nucleus acquiration (as moving to multicellular might belong in that stage?).

I was thinking a bit more progression achievements with 1-2 Easter egg achievements

Also there could be an achievement for obtaining every other microbial acheivement

I imagine that we would only want to add a “complete all microbe stage achievements” achievement once we are sure we have added them all, likely far after 1.0 release. If we continue adding more microbe achievements afterwards, it would mess up an aggregate achievement like that.

This achievement seems like it would need to differ based on starting location. Perhaps it could instead be moving to the surface patch if starting in hydrothermal vents OR moving to hydrothermal vents from the warm pond start. Have it focus on the movement instead of the destination itself. I do like the idea as one of the simpler achievements.

How would the achievement work like with panspermia option?

The achievement could record the patch you start in instead of what option you choose, so if the random patch happens to be hydrothermal vents, then the triggering goal would be reaching/surviving/adapting to a surface patch. And vice-versa.

And if it was neither surface nor the wents, there wouldn’t be a way of getting such an achievement on such a save?

I think we can have many achievements require more setup to get, its not like we would want them to all be completeable in a single playthrough.

So so far we have:

  • editor cycle achievement
  • nucleus achievement
  • vent-to-surface achievement (could be merged with the next one)
  • surface-to-vent achievement (could be merged with the next one)

That’s 4/10 (3/10?) at the present. Six (Seven?) to go.
