Blender!

So, my birthday is coming up. Insert cheering noise

And that gives me an opportunity to finally contribute to Thrive…

BLENDER!

The main point of this post is to ask some questions and ask for advice. Also, feel free to put your own creations here!

QUESTIONS! Hoping @Mr42 sees this portion…

How good at Blender do I have to be to join the team, rather, what are the standards? Is there a specific style I would have to follow, if so, what is it? Would there be any coding elements involved if I manage to join the 3d modeling team?

ADVICE!

I will put things here when, or rather IF, I get Blender and start making things.

MILESTONES AND MODELS!

I will put stuff here once I make models and start learning how to use blender.

I think mr42 knows perhaps the most about the blender program out of the entire devteam

Good to know, now I got to hope they somehow see this…

I mean they are on the forum but from what I recall they were the most active on the thrive discord server

Well unfortunately I am unable to reach the Discord, so I just got to hope they see this on here.

You can ping them I guess.
Juuzo has also been experimenting with blender lately

That’s actually not a bad idea…

I think the stuff is supposed to be realistic (pretty obvious considering the sort of game Thrive is) but also work with the game and it’s environment (so for instance the way ice chunks have been handled)

Alright, so I will focus on making things realistic. That shouldn’t be THAT hard right?…right?

You can look at the models already there as the examples

Already where? The Thrive models or models on Blender?

In the game there is this little thing known as the “art gallery” that hosts the models

Art gallery is currently outdated but afaict all game assets are available in Thrive repository on GitHub.

You would still need a way to view them tho

Huh, thought blender was free (or will you just have a good enough PC now?).

It is free, did I sound like it wasn’t?

I think he’s referring to this.

To dragonking, I recommend trying it right away if you’re remotely interested. The only way to get better is to start, and there’s a lot of good tutorials if you get stuck.
Modelling won’t always be fun, it will sometimes be just straight up work, but I’m sure you will create something that you’re proud of.
And if my dinosaur of a PC can run it, you’ll probably be fine.

Pretty sure blender has been around since the 90s

Sorry, was replying to the original post.

Also there are probably plenty of tutorials on youtube or elsewhere on making objects in a style similar to Thrive’s
