Compounds do diffuse from vent to vent so for example you do have higher levels of hydrogen sulfide in the sea floor next to the vents, without the high temperature.

Yeah but I’d think more like zones which still have abnormal temperatures

Will larger sized worlds automatically have shorter organisms due to the higher gravity? Similarly, would smaller worlds automatically have taller organisms due to the lower gravity? Or would this change based on a more advanced world generator/editor down the line?

I would think greater gravity would increase movement cost amount and make it scale more harshly with mass. Though I can see a non-LAWK setting of some sort which would allow the player to make a larger world without strongly influencing gravity. I’d imagine many players want a larger planet just for more space without effects on movement and energy costs.

We’re Thrive, though, so we also want to think of Ectotherms. If you’re not trying to maintain your temperature, then, like insects, lizards, etc. you just live at whatever the ambient temperature is, and your cell/tissues need to be built to handle whatever that is. Too hot temperatures will cook them (but unlike endotherms, they’re not producing heat so this is much harder to reach), while cold temperatures just slow them down, except if the temperature is really extremely low and they actually freeze to death. SA/V still plays a role here though, really large ectotherms will retain more heat and therefore activity in the cold. (I presume this also makes them more likely to overheat)

I assume at some point, Thrive will add uncoupling protein (UCP) and other uncoupling agents, which can have other functions besides heat generation, including calcium balance and limiting ROS (and possibily affecting immunity) in mammals.

This paper describes UCP-like proteins in unicellular Eukaryotes, so UCPs should probably be added to Microbe eventually.

Would specifically this sort of protein be added or overall a “heating agent”?

Probably better to add it as an “Uncoupler” or “Uncoupling agent” to better accurately capture the diversity of uncoupling compounds across currently known life, and it would allow for their possible expansion into different physiological roles later in the game.

You are probably right, but . . . I keep thinking: Cheetahs are more streamline than Antelopes, but Antelopes have more stamina.

I do like your idea of non-LAWK radiotrophy being a prokaryotic part, and you make a good point - sure radiotrophy is niche and unique, but since you only can unlock it as a eukaryote, you already are dependent on other resources by then. Which is accurate - again, radiotrophs today do not sustain themselves fully on radiation. But hey, for non-LAWK, why not provide a prokaryotic part as an option, so radiation atleast can be a goofy playstyle.

I also think have a prokaryotic version of Melanosomes as a non-LAWK option would be a good addition. Perhaps the game will eventually add a prokaryotic version of Bioluminsecent vacuole as some sort of bioluminscent proteins, too.

I am curious as to what setting ImanProductions uses when trying out Radiotrophy. I normally play with all compounds being on “Very High” abundance and max resource cloud size, which gives the world more Radiation chunks. It is still difficult, but slightly more manageable.

I don’t really use radiation at all since it’s a pretty bad food source all things considered so I can’t say much here

There are microorganisms with bioluminescence.

And V. harveyi uses it as UV protection.
