Crustacean worshipping thread

Also, skeleton shrimp are Amphipods, while real shrimp are in the clade Decapoda. Decapods are not amphipods, and vice versa. Humans can be bad at naming things.

I know. Wikipedia names them as things named β€œShrimp”.

Non-decapods

A wide variety of non-decapod crustaceans are also commonly referred to as shrimp. This includes the brine shrimp, clam shrimp, fairy shrimp and tadpole shrimp belonging to the branchiopods, the lophogastridan shrimp, opossum shrimp and skeleton shrimp belonging the Malacostraca; and seed shrimp which are ostracods.[3] Many of these species look quite unlike the commercial decapod shrimp that are eaten as seafood. For example, skeleton shrimp have short legs and a slender tail like a scorpion tail, fairy shrimp swim upside down with swimming appendages that look like leaves, and the tiny seed shrimp have bivalved carapaces which they can open or close.[12] Krill resemble miniature shrimp, and are sometimes called β€œkrill shrimp”.[43][44]

Also, this quote is hilarious:

A shrimp seems to be almost any
crustacean that isn’t a lobster,
barnacle, or crab

If that’s the definition we are using for shrimp, then I’m gonna name some shrimp!

All the non-crab, lobster, and barnacle crustaceans!

Would horseshoe crabs belong in this thread or no?

Horseshoe Crabs are neither crustaceans or insects. They are they are chelicerates, more closely related to arachnids like spiders, ticks, and scorpions.

They do still look rather crustacea-esque, don’t they?

I can see where you are coming from, and many people think that, but unfortunately, Limulidaens (the scientific name of Horseshoe Crabs) are not classified as crustaceans.

I see.
Also, which crustaceans are we worshipping here exactly?

I honestly don’t know. This seems more like an appreciation thread to me, unless more people start worshipping doomlightning along with JustaDumbThriver.

There’s also a Hhyyrylainen worship thread, though I don’t recall Hhyyrylainen being a crustacean…

Cruel fact for you all, ducks are not the animals with the largest genital to body size ratio, barnacles are. (if you don’t know about ducks either, those guys are wild.)

Maybe hhy is a productive programmer due to having so many limbs… (as in about as many as human fingers)

Do fingers really count as limbs in any sense?

According to Wikipedia:

A finger is a prominent digit on the forelimbs of most tetrapod vertebrate animals,

and

A digit is one of several most distal parts of a limb, such as fingers or toes, present in many vertebrates.

I think limbs are longer, and fingers are shorter.

What if one was to have a finger in place of an arm?

I guess it would sort of be like people who don’t have fingers on their hands? :person_shrugging:

So it still wouldn’t count as a limb in such case, no?

Maybe? Do really long fingers count as limbs?

Maybe if they exist separately from arms?

Truly a massive level of asymmetry.
Thrive might be one of the first evo games to allow such a level to be achieved…
