Idle games, also known as incremental or clicker games, are games where click something, get some upgrades to do it for you, and then sit back and relax while buying more upgrades. That’s the basic formula. However, these games can also get ridicolously complex. They can also go completely insane. One thing is constant throughout all these games, though: number increase, brain happy.

Which sort of clickers would count as idle games? Is cookie clicker one of them?

Yes, although clicker games are often used as a synonym of idle games, it’s more of a subset. Clicker games have an object to click, and run in the background. Running in the background is a characterisitic of all idle games, but not all idle games need a specific object to click. NGU Idle for example, has no object to click. Basically, all clicker games are idle games, but not all idle games are clicker games.

Antimatter dimensions, cookie clicker, The Perfect Tower ii, NGU Idle, NGU Industries, etc. I have played WAY too many for my own good.
