You cannot just take control of an active species. you can however. branch off an active species to create a new active species with 1 population.
as for the nutrients of the hadelpelagic zone. . . that will remain a mystery until a brave species decides to venture outwards into the unknown.
your purchases for your new species lorevia rex are also a bit too expensive. when you are branching off a new species you only have 10 EP to use. the next round is when you can utelize an ancestral species traits like metabolosomes and nitrogenase etc to gain extra EP. im going to assume you want 3 cytoplasm as that will be most helpful for your species.

just gonna drop in to say a few stuff:
You can de-evolve organelles/prokaryotic structures. this will give you half of as many EP you spent on said organelles/prokaryotic structures.
A species will always go with the most easy to obtain food source. for eg if a species is capable of eating iron and sulfur, and iron is much more plentiful. your species will eat iron. same thing is with predation. if your species is capable of predating on another organism and eating sulfur. and if sulfur is more plentiful than another organism. it will eat sulfur.
in order to fully utelize your metabolosomes. (if there is no glucose in the biome) you require more food obtaining organelles/prokaryotic structures. for eg if i have 10 metabolosomes and 5 chemosynthetic proteins. and there is no glucose in the region. only 4/10 of your metabolosomes will activate. 1 chemosynthetic protein was used to feed each population point of your species. and the 4 spare chemosynthetic metabolosomes are used to feed your

In order for the game to progress. One species must migrate into a new prominant area. From then on. All other species living in the old region will become unactive. (They will still be evolving) but their species doesnt lead to multicellular life. Which is why the species that migrates becomes the new luca of the region.
