PC Setups

Hm. So seems like some sort of fatigue might be going on…

It could also be an issue of wifi strength or a beat up network card or some weird program slowing stuff down. Any of a million things, but still reasonable to want an upgrade.

While I’m posting in the PC setup thread, I have a question regarding water-cooling. Whenever I get around to getting a new CPU I want to replace my little stock cooler with some water-cooling, so uh, two questions:

  • does anyone on here know any good resources for learning about water-cooling?
  • how hard would it be to modify an air-cooled GPU to be water-cooled?

To my knowledge water-cooling requires a whole system of pipes and stuff for the water to get to where it’s supposed to cool. It is said to be better than air-cooling, but I am not sure every air-cooled PC can be easily turned into a water-cooled one.

There are some preconfigured water cooler on the market.

Here:

Those are the most simple to install, I think. Otherwise, you could go with EKWB, Corsair or… here’s a video.

Btw BJS, do you still plan to have a watercooled PC or not?

New build, because DDR5-4800 isn’t that good. Only cost 6 bucks to upgrade to DDR5-5600!

JaDT, how many of the parts on your list are on discounted prices currently?

there’s also modded ksp and heavily modded mc that ypu could need that much ram for

Yeah, modded KSP is the main thing I want the PC to run.

yea, that can take over 16 gb before you even get half of the compatible ones

Have there been any KSP optimization mods?

RSS/RO/RP1 and it’s express install mods are a good example. Not to mention if you’re using kOS, KER, or whatever.

What even is the largest ksp modpack around?

I wonder what a server could be like…

Oh, and if you were wondering what a cheapskate PC would look like, here:

The graphics is integrated.

for ~$250 you could buy a used laptop with better specs than that i3 setup (you could also buy the parts used to get the price down)… i’d prefer getting a used desktop someone wanted to get rid of because the HDD was too slow and replacing it with a cheap SSD.

Here’s my updated setup plan:

I googled if the new monitor was good, and apparently it was. Doesn’t look like that price is because it’s on sale either.

You know, you will have to proceed with the purchase one day… The planning can’t just go on forever.

Server build:

The monitor is only for setting the server up.

So you now plan to have both PC and Server?

I’ll build the server quite a bit after the PC. The server will be for Factorio.
