PC Setups

Rhino-Linux also has an AUR, I think.

How much better does that push this linux distro, as it wasnโ€™t described as particularly good?

Hereโ€™s my PCPartPicker setup:

I plan to use Linux Mint on it. Do you think this is good for non-AAA gaming (my primary goal)?
Edit: Upgraded graphics card for CK3.

Yeah I used to play lots of indies (and some old stuff too) on steam and GoG on mint. I used lutris but really any good launcher will do in theory. You might need to do a lot of fiddling with stuff that isnโ€™t from steam, even if it is from GoG (though thereโ€™s gonna be resources telling you what to fix for GoG games).

EDIT: WHEREโ€™S YOUR SSD??? itโ€™s 2025, we do not install an OS on a hdd. I have mint on a hdd (old laptop it isnโ€™t worth upgrading) and trust me, it books as slow as a normal pc boots windows 11, you will hate yourself if you try that.
You could get something like this https://www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-500GB-SN580-Internal/dp/B0C8WP6B8R if you like the 500 GB size, I actually have a basically equivalent one, samsung and maybe 8 dollars more, it doesnโ€™t matter, this one just looked like a decent price and it was still a name brand (I stick to WD crucial and samsung if i can, off brands get weird). You can also get a 250 GB ssd for cheap AF and keep the hard drive for games if you want. I cannot recommend enough getting an SSD. a sata SSD is also an option, itโ€™s just a waste of pcie lanes.

significantly less important concern: unless youโ€™re getting a good deal that just isnโ€™t on pcpartbelgiumer (understandable, it just shows amazon prices), you might want to check out other GPUs. Buying used is worth it in spades unless the previous owner mined crypto or something, and I donโ€™t think people do that with 1650s. you might want to consider a beefy GPU and a bigger PSU, depending on your budget. For example, a used 980 TI is a decent upgrade over a 1650, is likely cheaper, but draws more power. If you like AMD, you get way more options. Dunno. If itโ€™s your choice, cool, but I just worry ppl are actually paying $250 for a 4 GB card.

I tend to save things excessively out of fear of losing progress on whatever I work on. Will my habit negatively affect the life of a computer with an SSD?

technically. what serious data hoarders do is use an SSD for everyday stuff and back up files to a large hard drive. But for practical, noncommercial purposes, there is basically one use case where you will actually hammer the drive so hard an HDD is actually better (and the speed difference wonโ€™t make you want to die using an HDD): extremely heavy piracy. I have rewritten my entire ssd many times over, and while the trimming algorithms have taken a few GB off, the speed recovery is SO worth it. Trust me. This is one of those โ€œtechnically x is true but litterally it doesnโ€™t matterโ€. SSDs are worth the price, and occasional trimming. Also, due to the risk of head crash, most people actually wonโ€™t even find HDDs lasting longer.

By the way, does trimming accelerate the older/used for longer a ssd is?

OK, I fixed the storage.

1TB of storage, half hard drive, half SSD. And saved a whole 50 bucks on the GPU!

Looks like a win-win then.

Itโ€™s the exact same GPU type, just 50 dollars cheaper. Steal!

Well now you got a physical money save off a free gameโ€™s communityโ€ฆ

Or to feed the 12700KFโ€™s needsโ€ฆ

Yep, I did that. But 800w is the recommended power for the 12700KF, soโ€ฆ

I assume thatโ€™s a rather large needed power input?

Thatโ€™s the needed supply I found from googleโ€ฆ

Well, if you already bought it you rather ought to supply it such a supply of wattsโ€ฆ

I also upgraded the cooling to the recommended of 70-80 CFM.

Do these all parts make for a complete computer?

Theyโ€™ll arrive not together, thatโ€™s why you have to build it.

I meant if these parts listed there are everything needed structurally for a functional computer.

All you really need to add to it is an OS, and you can use Linux Mint for free. Other than that, itโ€™s all the necessary parts!
