deserts actually do have water underground(especially near rivers), and lots of plants take adantage of that, and going down to the damp sand is actually one of the ways that lots of desert animals stay cool during the day

Shouldn’t you also need the adaptation of turning fat into water efficiently?

while fat does produce water when burned, animals with fat humps tend to have a thicker layer of cytoplasm surrounding the lipid vesicles in their fat cells, as well as have more water between their fat cells to store water, rather than burn energy that can be used to power their bodies to take water out, that way they can store water they drink instead of having to spend much more energy and find much more food to stay hydrated

M1: wax layer that can be shed after spending an hour underwater(to better hold in water) and forms as a result of spending over 5 minutes out of water(gets soft enough to be eroded when in water, but solidifies in response to dehydration)
M2: sync the cell cycles of our chloroplasts with our cells. and have them specialize into amino acid factories and nitroplasts when not exposed to light

Predatory life seems rather risky, as it depends on vulnerable prey species with weaknesses to exploit…

One could be a general predator or just a dedicated one. Plus few of us actually gotten a mutation to really fight besides foraging better

Once all prey species start fighting back, it will become hard for the predator species to keep itself afloat…

Evolutionary arm race my friend. A predator doesn’t need to be perfect just good enough to hunt weak, old or young prey

I guess so… But just how many stats below are those disadvantaged ones?

No clue, I don’t know if the predator needs two or one stat to be better to cling on. Though it funny enough would be better to go predator then fight for food amongst fellow herbivores.

Or go omnivore and eat both (albeit at a lower efficiency).

An omnivore would probably be best, as there is a lot of vegatation, and being better in 1 stat of 2 creatures could get you 10 food as well, while only losing 1/4 of vegatation food. Unless you are getting 40+ food from Vegetation, that’s worth it.
