Progress Updates

It could depend on how much more (or less) features get added to Macroscopic. As long as Players still get to make weird Ediacaran-esque creatures, it should still be fun regardless of length.

I think they would still find it boring to play as such β€œcreatures”

Even if a Player evolves a Hydrogen-based floatation bladder? Or eventual limbs?

I am not sure an ediacaran-age β€œplant” would even support living above the waters

The fun thing is that the game will hopefully allow Players to try to do so (if more land biomes are added in Macroscopic).

Well, as long as the developers add such a feature to the non-lawk mode…

Technically all plants would be Macroscopic Stage species still. It would only be a short Stage if you quickly go into Aware.

Wasn’t there a proposal to split up plants and other such sessile macroscopics so that the more complex ones will only be added (can evolve) when aware is being worked on?

That’s in terms of β€œwhen are we adding these parts into Macroscopic”. They would still absolutely be Macroscopic, not Aware, species.

Yeah I know, just that when macroscopic (the stage) is done with the plants will still be stuck at a relatively primitive level

Still, I think Space Stage happening a bit later makes sense for gameplay, too. We started going to space in the 50s but it’s been a bit touch and go, especially manned missions. There hasn’t been a person on the moon since the 70s.
I honestly do think it’d make more sense if Space Age officially started when a species starts going to space more consistently and on a slightly larger scale. Like how Multicellular doesn’t start when you just form colonies, you have to make it permanent.

I honestly consider Multicellular to just be a part of the Microbe stage, you’re still a microbe during it…
I think after Macroscopic is more developed Multicellular should just be merged with Microbe.

I mean, stage distinctions were made for a reason, and you’re no longer just one microbe, so there’s that

Exactly. Different cell types in Multicelular are basically the start of different tissues. If I remember correctly from Anatomy, a tissue is a grouping of the exact same kind of cells from the same cell differentiation lineage connected by together by extracellular matrix. So technically, a group of 2-3 cells in Multicellular could be considered a very, very small tissue.

And by the end of the stage you should get the rough outline of what you’ll play as until the game’s end (most likely)

I think you mean a rough inline. The outside, while it decides how you start Macroscopic, will probably change a lot. Was there anything that looked like a Tetrapod in the Cambrian?

Yeah I think an β€œinline” would make more sense, so for instance the sort of tissues the organism will be made from

  • Made achievements writing use a temporary file to make data corruption less likely

Could this be used for writing other information by the game to make the game overall less corruptible, if it isn’t already, or would this make it more difficult to determine where a bug occurs in the game systems?

  • Scrollbar backgrounds now have rounded ends.

Thank you, PullSL, for fixing it!

  • Digestion of engulfed cells now ends immediately when all useful compounds have been absorbed, even if the cell still had toxins. This should prevent β€œghost” cells sticking around inside you.

Are β€œghost entities” a common issue in games?

They happen almost every cell I engulf whenever I play.

I think it should only happen rarely with engulfing, what version are you playing?
