Have Oliver made a theme for the Organism Editor?
If some features get finished, theyโll be included, but they wonโt be the main focus.
Iโll take this opportunity to present to you an idea worth considering. Have you ever thought about applying Ray Tracing technology to Thrive? It would make the game look so beautiful and realistic, especially compared to the bland looking Spore. Using Ray Tracing in an evolutionary game would be truly revolutionary.
Good question. But I really dont know isโฆ is Thrive is going to be a game with very good graphics or very realistics, or just a Spore, in terms of everything about graphics?
I really hope the graphic quality follow the realistic Thrive gameplay
Thrive will come out some decades after Spore, so the graphics are probably going to be superior.
What possibility exists to give Thrive one of those fancy self-teaching AIs like Alphastar? Given that life will evolve in unforeseen ways, the AI cannot be programmed to comprehend every situation. Furthermore, the AI bumbling and learning would fit the game. At first the cells are inefficient and die quickly, but over time the AI understands them and operates efficiently. I donโt know how difficult such an AI is to make, however.
Raytracing takes a ton of GPU power, and we have a ton of players trying to use laptops from 2012 with only intel integrated graphics to play the game.
Iโm not against adding some raytraced lighting effects etc., but Godot will need to add support for it first, itโs not something that can be used without the game engine supporting it.
I would like to add some kind evolutionary algorithm for the AI to learn, but due to time constraints (we canโt ask the player to wait really quickly for 15 minutes for the AI to become somewhat competent before resuming the game), itโs probably going to end up really simple.
The Godot version doesnโt have AI in it at all currently. I hope someone who is interested in game AI will make it.
What is patreonโs money used for besides web hosting? Because they donโt achieve the $ 500 yet
So far, nothing. Iโve thought of various things that might need to be paid for to register a non-profit, but I think I need to read up more on it before โwastingโ money on stuff that is not required. For example I still havenโt found out that if to register an association in Finland you need to have the rules in Finnish, or if English rules would be okay. If they arenโt okay, then someone needs to translate them and I think the only โsafeโ way to do that is to pay for professional translation services. Once I figure those things out (feel free to help by looking up all the laws and options regarding international non-profits), the leftover patreon money is first going to go to setting up a non-profit, as I donโt want to receive too much money personally as then Iโd have to pre-report my earnings for tax purposes.
International is not a country. All organizations, companies, etc. have to be actually registered in some country. If Iโm the one spearheading the effort, I think the best choice is to set up in a place where I live (as it seems many places require an address in the country you are setting up in). Though, I read that to register in Finland you need at least 2 members who reside in Finland, if you are to register without special permission, so it is actually pretty difficult. When googling for the best way to make an international organization, I found very little useful stuff.
Will the new version 0.5.0 have more graphics things like more effects, better water, light, membranes or something? (or maybe fluid simulation, better physics like when you bump into a small organelle and it can stop you, even the organelle being small)
Itโs uncertain. I wonโt be spending time on making fancy graphics updates for the Godot version, but now other people should have no excuse as we are using a proper engine with a large community of people working on it.
Iโm afraid that youโre actually gonna have a harder time working on future graphics with Godot than Unreal, and that engine had many more people using it. But we are not most people, so this should make both our game and engine shine brighter.
Iโve read that unless you have a professional art team, unreal engine 4 games donโt end up looking that good. I think someone pretty experienced in the games industry said that. So if you donโt know your tools, even if you use the โbestโ tools available the results not going to be good.
Just a quick questionโฆHow did @phrenomythic join in โFeb '19โ
