Quick Question Thread

This is more of community question then a dev question, but devs can ask this. But what part of aware stage are you most intrested in? Anything from creature creation to a water to land tranistion?

Who writes the thrive website update posts?
By the way I just got a new profile picture based on the everywhere at the end of time stage 2 cover

What’s the baseline skill for a programmer joining the team? I’m good with C/C++ (making a 3D renderer with them right now), but apart from a small Terraria mod, I don’t have any C# experience. Would that be enough to join as a programmer or would I need to get better with C# first?

Usually @Buckly but sometimes someone else needs to take over, it’s usually me but sometimes also someone else will write the post and I’ll just handle putting it up on the website.

If you know one object oriented language with C-style syntax, you almost know all of them. If you are already skilled in programming, picking up C# shouldn’t take more than a couple of weekends.

I think the only really good way to check if you have the skills is to pick an easy task (or good first issue) to work on: GitHub Ā· Where software is built

And just trying to work through one by Googling whatever you don’t know yet (after following our setup instructions as those have a ton of info on how to get Thrive compiling on your system).

How is the convolution surfaces in the macroscopic editor going? I’ve read that you were working on it with Nunz way back in december.

There’s been no progress on it since. At least Nunz hasn’t mentioned anything about working on it even on the dev discord, I think they might be busy with other stuff at the moment and can’t focus on Thrive development.

does the amount of cilia on a cell change the pull range

It only changes the direction and force

If your cell is very large, the pull from cilia on one side won’t reach the other. So for maximum range you can add cilia on all sides of the cell.

When big rusticyanin?

when endosymbiosis gets added

Will there be references to other evolution games like elysian eclipse or adapt?
Edit: from what I’ve heard in the thrivestream. There’ll actually be more progress on the multicell prototypes in the game? Atleast that’s how I interprented it.

cilia vs flagellum
what is the difference in game
Also is thrive available on mac now? There was a challenge going around, and has that been fulfilled?

cillia improve turning speed and can suck stuff in now with an upgrade
flagellum improve movement speed

How will leader system work in the society - space stage work? EU4, hoi4, hoi4 dual leader system like the dh4 mod? It would be intresting for a dual leader system one primary other mostly primary ministers later on if you are not in a feudal system.

hello! I’m new here. I have a question:

the report screen said several generations ago (I am now on 1,500 Myr) that my species went extinct on the planet

the auto-evo pop-up seems to reaffirm this, with the ā€œTotal Populationā€ constantly saying 0 for 3-4 generations now

yet I can keep playing? I have for several generations now. my population is locked at 50, but I can continue playing as my species
I’m a bit confused. am I extinct? if so, why am I able to continue playing as the same species. if I’m not extinct, why does it say I am and why won’t my population change?

thank you!!! love this game so far

your species is not viable for how it’s ai is programmed. you can fix that by changing it’s organelle ratios, membrane, or behavior. the reason it is staying above 0 is because you are staying alive long enough to hit the mitosis button

ooh okay, that makes a ton of sense. it did say the ATP production was in the negative, but I just kept surviving (although, not thriving) so I didn’t question it. thank you!!!

yeah you need to have at least 90% of your ATP usage neutralized by ATP production or have your species move as little as a rock.

Can an organelle that is longer than cilia and shorter than a flagellum exist?
