for talking about how to abuse sci-fi tech, assuming currently known laws of physics apply, but mainly a continuation of Thrive SCP Thread that is focused on sci-fi Belgiumery, experiments, calculations, and what it means
recently i figured out some stuff about portals from someone outside of the foundation, and realized i don’t need to make the portals use an externally created pocket dimension if i can put a portal inside another portal of the same exact size, and thus started attempting to make telescopic portals
which took, a LOT longer than i wanted, especially since i was having them bend space to connect to eachother, and telescopic, spatial(rather than magical) portals that take an even semi-reasonable amount of effort to widen or constrict is extremely difficult, since you are literally stretching a hole through space to do it
aaanyways, i managed to make the spatial portals work and connect to eachother by keeping a low-mass, negatively charged ringularity inside the shell, giving it the proper mechanisms to withstand the explosion from when it dissipates, and putting the portals at a VERY specific distance from eachother[1] to connect, and using the same mechanisms you use to control a plasma or a very big arc of electrons to confine the ringularity, as well as some stuff to reflect the hawking radiation back into the ringularity to keep it from exploding everywhere
anyways, for it to stay a ringularity and not just try to separate into many singularities, it needs angular velocity, which is supplied via a bunch of wires running in parallel(basically a weird coil) to electrically polarize the inside of the tube, so the ringularity spins itself, or by shooting stuff that has angular velocity into it
and yes, theoretically the first option means that, if you use electrets instead of a weird coil thing, you can extract energy from two portals with opposite circular polarization
obviously though, that would mean creating energy, so i plan to either find what stops that, or find out why it’s an exception to an otherwise indisputable law of physics(and if it is, a very similar exception is zero-point energy, which involves the absence of stuff separating itself into things, be it light or matter)
though, the thing stopping you from using portals for that may just be the fact that the ringularity gets wider as it rotates faster
anyways, to make the spatial portals telescopic, i had to figure out how to make a telescopic magnetic confinement tube, that is also able to contain a perfect vacuum, then i had to figure out how to do the wiring and programming, and after that i still had to figure out how to make the ringularity spin up and down fast enough to make the portal able to expand and contract faster than rocks grow
all of that took a month, but what took even longer was getting two connected telescopic portals to somewhere far enough from anything that matters, so i could put them inside eachother
and, contrary to what literally everyone in the facility except 2 people said when i asked them, they did not explode
rather, when i put the small portal in the big portal, they created an infinitely repeating space where, on one side, the portal got smaller and smaller the further it was from the one i was looking through, but on the other, it got bigger and bigger
after i equalized their size(and angular velocity) the scaling effect stopped, and instead, the space was just infinitely repeating along one axis[2]
but
in the space created by the portals, there is nothing but a pitch black vacuum. however, if you happen to lose anything to the void, all you must do to reclaim it is take the portals that made the pocket dimension, and pull them out of eachother
however, if one is smaller than the other, space loops in all directions, though you wouldn’t know it by looking out, since the teleportation surfaces of both portals would be spheres with holes in them, and light gets teleported near-infinitely
with equal sized portals however, there is an infinite space with definite thickness between the portals
technically though, equal sized portals within eachother would be called antiportals, and making one causes one half of your observable universe to be only able to see one side of one portal, while the other half of your observable universe is only able to see the other side of the other portal, and they see both as a hole through which the distance is increased
however, as the teleportation surfaces now only exist outside the ringularity, and the ringularity now makes a hole in the teleportation surface, they now make an antiportal, rather than a set of portals
and destroying either gate of the antiportal does nothing but close the hole in the teleportation surface, destroy the other gate, and remove any control you had over the size of the space through anything but gravity, so if you do it, you better have the perfect distance between the gates of the antiportal, and make sure the ringularities are perfectly static in everything but angular momentum before you close the portals
they’re literally bending spacetime through a fourth dimension separate from that one the van lets you use, that space exists within, but is not truly a spatial dimension, and rather better thought of as an abstraction of how gravity works ↩︎
i used a laser to make absolutely sure that there was less than 0.0001 degrees of difference between the orientations of the portals, if you try this you are more likely to get a helical or spiral repetition ↩︎
Why isn’t this a part of that thread then? Pretty sure it’d fit in.
(Also doublepost warning)
cause it’s more for focusing on the tech stuff while the scp thread is more focused on the scp from the thread
Wasn’t there some considerable amounts of tech discussion in the scp thread in the past?
I either know precisely which youtube channel you’ve been watching or which one you need to watch
If willow figured this all out themselves, I suppose that would prove they can come up with stuff… matching theories.
optozorax?
you mean dawn
i’m dawn, not willow
Oh right, silly me.
Also would the portal stuff still work if the portals were 3d (like wormholes) and not 2d?
yeah, the 2d portals are just supposed to be a 2d slice of 3d portals, with the 3rd dimension in the space bending simulations being a paraspatial(?) dimension, which means it kinda interacts with space but it isn’t a spatial dimension that matter can interact with, and it’s more an abstraction than something that actually exists
and 2d portals have the edges be points, while the 3d ones have it be a circle
How did you find out about all that portal stuff?
I think she meant Isaac Arthur.
I recall a few channels seem to have covered the portal topic recently…
i used to watch him but apparently he uses exclusively ai images for the things in his videos
Did he start doing that recently or back when you were watching him?
yeh
honestly haven’t thought about him in a while lol
I slowly, painfully, figured that out in real time.
At this point I hope the ability to distinguish the ai from the human doesn’t become just a scifi concept…
Is that so? It’s been a long time since I watched his videos.
Time changes people… Oftentimes towards the worse.
