The Disturbance: Underwater, or Surface Creature?

This past live stream, @GameDungeon uttered a statement which might shift our understanding of our iconic organism - that the Disturbance lives underwater, in a kelp forest. They pointed out the bubble-like shapes surrounding the art piece.

What does the community think: is the Disturbance above or underwater?

amphibious, it always made me think of amphibians with soft skin and tendrils and stuff, you don’t see those in land animals, and you rarely see muscular limbs and distinct necks in aquatic animals. this spicific picture, I think it makes total sense that its underwater

It looks like there is water in the bottom left so it is probably amphibious or a surface creature, the limbs look like they wouldn’t “catch” much water, also they are very muscular which also makes it seem like a surface creature. their head would not be very aerodynamic in water (hydrodynamic?) compared to earths very thin fish.

My bet,
it lives on land.

Yeah, this shot looks to have been taken abovewater of a creature with many abovewater adaptations. Possibly amphibious.

It always looked like it was underwater to me, even the position that the Disturbance is in indicates that it’s in water.

So it would be like some sort of a sea floor walker? Perhaps with a density a lot higher than the surrounding water?

I always thought it was underwater

Clearly, it’s a mostly aquatic creature that became amphibious just in time, right before transitioning to the Awakening stage. For… memetic metal-related reasons…

Now, if this is a kelp forest and not a bunch of grass-like plants then how big is this underwater disturbance?

That is an evolved sentient velvet worm that lives in rain forest!

I thought we already agreed that it lived underwater…

I always thought that is in some alien forest, so for me Disturbance is surface creature.

I will add I personally have thought it was above water, but definitely see how it could be underwater. I find that the ambiguity plays into Thrive being alien.

I found archive footage from secret Revolutionary Games archive.

Disturbance surface creature: Confirmed

The original art posting doesn’t mention anything that’s completely indicative of a lifestyle one way or another:

My gut reaction is that it’s land-based but lives in a swamp.

Leaked society stage footage?

I find the thought that Disturbance could be small enough to fit in the palm of your hand hilarious.

If that is the case then I guess it wouldn’t stand a chance against Romp too.

Albeit with disturbance being so small I guess that if we ever get disturbance plushies, they can be labelled as being “1:1 in scale”.

I thought they were around 5 meters tall

I thought disturbance was wolf-sized
