The drone constructed at first seems perfectly average. But after some short flight tests, the drone is found to have improperly built circuitry, resulting in a mix up that causes the drone crash. Luckily it is able to be salvaged for parts, but disapointing none the less.

Due to being constructed in a ice cave with a factory, there is a lot of melting ice.
Causing water to drip down into assembly and interferes with circuitry within the drone.
After starting test flights, it short circuits mid-air, causing to crash into a wall and break.
It is soon scrapped.

With the peat discovered, you take action to build on top of it. With the remoteness of the deposit, you end up first constructing a very long conveyer belt, almost the maximum range of one.
And then the drill is constructed from supplies shipped down the belt. The drill itself is turned on and the belt is reversed, and the peat is mined is effectively.

Despite having no ore to smelt, it seems like a good idea to build a smelter. With nothing better to do, you spent all season perfecting this refinery.

Scout to max range(4):
You decide to try to look as far as possible. With this massive circular sweep, you have to disable some functionality of the drone to save enough electricity. Across this sweep you can see the edge of the forest to the south, leading to masive plains, although these are not easily accessable. You can also see to the north a large natural wall made of large hills, behide which there is an odd interuptive material. By the end of it the drone enters emergency power and nearly falls out of the sky, but does make it home in time. You were unable to scan most of the forest and ore scanning was disabled.

Seeing as you don’t want the drill to be deployed yet, you assemble only the parts of it and make them so they can construct together. But it is poorer quality because of this, you refer to this ‘the ikea effect’, you have no idea where you got the name but it refers to when something that has to be assemble later will often be of lower quality.

Scout for more caves(2):
You find several ice caves beneath the surface, but they’re covered over by ice. You remember that the one you are in was opened when you broke through and landed. So you cannot reach these yet. But as your drone returns, you decide to check the caves linked to your cavern. Most of the caves are too small, but you find one wide enough for the drone to go through one-way al the way through, and you detect an area that is much wider on the other side.
