Thrivers scramble for Africa!

It is the year 1880, the European powers of the world will soon begin carving up Africa, for better or for worse.

You may choose an African or European power to play as and you can either survive the imperial takeover of the dark continent or bring your own flavor of β€˜civilization’ to the new lands. I will update the map by each round based on what the players choose to do and how effective their choice ends up being.

The game will have 10 rounds, each lasting two years. The game will end in 1900.

Would the ones that are already colonies be colonizer-affiliated?

The ones that are already colonies would be influenced by the ones who control them. If you choose to be a colony there’s a non-zero chance your turn will be blocked by your overlord.

And who/what are the colonizer nations?

Currently only France and Britain but you can choose any decently maritime capable power in Europe if you choose to do so.

Do the ottomans also count here or not?

The Ottomans also count as a colonizer nation but they’re not maritime capable like the Europeans. (Also their vassals are much more autonomous than the european colonies)

How many players do you need to start the FG?

Optimally as much as possible so I don’t have to simulate NPC nations so I’ll probably wait a bit for people to join the FG.

Will you join in yourself?

I just learned that Liberia was never colonized by a European Nation.

Yeah I’m playing as Ethiopia

Technically it itself was a colony by the USA to send back freed black slaves who wanted to go back to Africa. Although the USA didn’t really control much of it if at all.

I think the situation with it is sort of complicated

Will the U.S. also try to colonize other African countries in this alternative history FG?

Probably not. It just doesn’t seem like something they would do.

So for it seems like we’d have 3 players in total, would that be enough or not quite yet?

I’ll probably wait for a day or two and if nobody else joins then we’ll start.
