What is your preferred playstyle/build in Thrive?

Everyone here likes thrive. Everyone here has played the game. After a certain point, which may not be applicable for everyone, a specific build/playstyle emerges to be favored among others. Some people main as a sessile Photosynthetic organism. Others like being a Predatory cell. Or even a Predatory Photosynthetic organism. So what is your preferred play-style/build in Thrive? This does not have to be set in stone; it can change as the game updates.

I generally use heterothropic mobile builds currently since a few releases. Seems like the main path most fresh eyes would take in the game…

For me, it depends, but I really like being a Eukaryotic Photosynthetic organism. It is just so calming. Also, it is kind of hilarious to see other organisms just go β€œNope” at seeing a huge cell. Interestingly enough, since I like using Chitin the most, I am basically playing as a Photosynthetic Fungi. Sometimes, I add the Slime Jet to make things more interesting. And with the most recent update, I like using the Bioluminescent vacuole with this build.

How useful is the bioluminescent vacuole when compared to a regular vacuole?

The Regular Vacuole is definitely better, as it gives more storage options, but I just like the Bioluminescent Vacuole since it makes my part of my cell glow.

Being meant for visual factor means the luminescent vacuole is certainly not the best in regards to non-visual factors. But perhaps one day it will find use in communicating with macroscopic members of your species…

I am usually a large photosynthetic iron eater.

Large predatory iron eater with toxins, spikes, and slime jets, but I always end up wiping everyone out except my sister species

I also used to take ironeater nearly every time before giving the heterotrophic lifestyle a try.

I wonder how different preferred Multicellular playstyles/builds will be from Microbe playstyles/builds?

They will probably have their foundations be atleast partially made of those β€œpowerful abilities” multicell organisms are supposed to have access to

I made a multicellular organism that has all membrane types. The cyan spiky cell has Silicon (most resistant to physical attack). The magenta toxic cell has Calcium Carbonate (most resistant to toxin). The blue digestion cell has Single (regular) membrane (for fastest absorption). The yellow movement cell has Double membrane (for faster movement). The red storage cell has Cellulose (for greater health and protection against spikes and being eaten without lysosomes). The white stem cell and green detection cell have Chitin (for greater health and protection against toxins and being eaten without lysosomes).

Does the build really work well when in game?

It does work, as I made it in an easy mode game, not Multicellular freebuild mode. I wonder if there are better configurations/combinations for something like this?

Have you tried it in normal mode?

I never specialize in my multicellular builds, honestly. Every playthrough I’ve done except for my first one was with a photosynthetic organism where I just slap 20 cells of the same type on and call it a day.

Pretty sure this is exactly what the devs want to eliminate (the sort of speedrunning to the macroscopic by only slapping the stem celltype)

Yeah, as of right now there isn’t really any reason to specialize as it’s just wasted points in the editor which could have been spent smashing the left mouse button to add more cells.

We’ll see how good of a strat will that be by the year’s end…

Instead of slapping down one cell type in Multicelluar, now it will be 3 or however many cell types are needed for Macroscopic. Players like slapping.
