Insect Appreciation Thread

A lot of people don’t like bugs, how about we give the little guys some love?

Is the top picture a Poodle Moth?

Here is a picture I found on the internet of Thorn Bugs.

For some reason, Thorn Bugs remind me of Horseshoe Crabs, which are neither Insects, nor Crustaceans.

Poodle moths aren’t a real moth species

That’s a picture of a Bombyx mori, the domestic silkworm

Nice insects you got in here, however please refrain from doubleposting. You can edit the later post into the former one. Doubleposting’s forbidden for a good reason.

Saved this little guy from a spider (he’s smaller than a fingernail)

Hopefully it’s not infested by parasitoid wasps or anything…

The Very Hungry Caterpillar?

Aren’t all caterpillars rather hungry, to the point they eat constantly?

Isn’t this true of other small creatures?

Some small creatures don’t need to eat all the time, especially if they’re not warm-blooded or just an intermediate, non-adult stage in the lifecycle of an organism…

Yes. All they do is eat. They need to store enough energy to pupate. I would hardly call it hunger though

Yeah, it’s more like an instinct than anything. As one person said, insects are pretty much biological robots.

Pill Millipedes are so cool! I want to find one!

They look so similar and yet they originated from two different lineages of arthropods…

Even funnier is the fact that an Isopod is named after a Mammal that exhibits the same behavior, which comes is a completely different lineage of Animals from Arthropods.

Also pillbugs are the same thing as woodlice, right?
