Just tested the multiplayer feature, and I can already say that I would be spending dozens of hours playing around with it if it is ever finished, the concept of a multiplayer evolution game, players creating unique designs and strategies to counter other species, each made by a different player is just amazing to me

I hope that the multiplayer mode comes to full fruition someday

P.S: What is the greyed out open-world gamemode supposed to be?

I’m not @KasterisK but I’d guess that it would be the “full” game playable (or at least the full microbe stage) as a multiplayer experience. As I understand it the multiplayer prototype is for the cell battle arena mode, which will be much easier to implement rather than making the full stage playable. Presumably though the button exists then as a placeholder to show that we might get that at some point as well.

I don’t really see how that will work with the difference of timescales between stages, unless players who fail to evolve in time are kicked out of the game

It’s just a little fun teaser I put there and a reference to my idea in the multiplayer dev post. What you pointed out is one of the many problems with the game mode to even be implemented so no need to put much thought into it.

how do you play the prototype?

you need to compile multiplayer version of thrive from github in godot

Or be a patron and manually select 92b85b3c30d2c58d2b94b5fd2179a87ef05691ad as the devbuild to play.

Has this always been pinned or was that something I just noticed?

its pinned unless you look all the way to the bottom of it, in which case it becomes unpinned for some reason (for me atleast)
