yep, at least as long as we don’t add other sulfur compounds
Oh wow, there must’ve been a spike in interest of thrive returning to mac for this to happen…
Thanks for catching the typo.
I guess I can reveal that I wrote the PU last week and most of this week’s, and yet no one noticed that the writing style was different than “usually.”
A very enthusiastic player on Mac joined our Discord recently and has been one of the most active members for a few weeks.
Back in september we were only at ~40 percent of required votes to make mac supported again, so we had some 600 mac users vote for the demand to be enough.
That’s not the case. I haven’t checked but I don’t expect things to have changed significantly. Also this isn’t an official mac support, but just that I’m finally getting around to fixing the roadblock that prevents the mac version from being compiled. Full on official support is still to come later. For example I experienced a crash when first trying to enter the editor which would be pretty unacceptable for an official version (some kind of shader compiling race condition in the engine triggered within the mac platform rendering API stack). So this 0.8.0 being available for mac will be just to see how badly it works. Maybe sometime in Q1 2025, if there’s good enough workarounds for the mac-only bugs, the mac version would be promoted up to official status and put on the game store versions of Thrive.
How long ago was that wishlist requirement set?
It’s pretty easy to find out. Here’s how I just looked it up by going to the dev forums:
And finding the first post in the relevant thread and when it was made.
Hmm, so we still have like atleast 2 years before the wishlist is complete, going by the trend…
I didn’t expect the new version to be released so soon. Or is it just my perception of time accelerating?
0.8.0 is releasing on 21st, so the RC for it will be given out on 14th. The RC was probably meant by the “public release test build”.
It didn’t feel like much time had passed either way.
A new release is nearly always just a few weeks away…
0.7.1 and 0.8.0 are using a bit condensed schedule so that both still fit into this year. I feel like I should again explain that this doesn’t mean faster progress, just that we are releasing what we have sooner. The amount of work going into Thrive each month is basically a constant (of course volunteer contributions can vary a lot between months so progress isn’t truly constant between months). Thus releasing more often means there’s less work having gone into the release; we aren’t magically able to summon more programming and other work to go into Thrive just by releasing more often.
Next year we should have some 5-6 releases, right?
Yeah, it’s pretty likely that we’ll have at least 5 releases next year and maybe 6 if again the schedule lines up so that I’d want to squeeze a couple of releases a bit to get in one last release before 2025 ends.
going by the plan to complete the microbe stage next year, 2 of those releases would belong to the 0.8.x era and the other 3 would belong to the 0.9.x era so that both of them have 3 releases in total, albeit I’m not sure if things like the planet generator can be completed in 2 releases…
More releases? Now I am going to have to re-arrange my schedule for this!
Also, I hope more updates make the game get more traction. I know SonOfMowgef, a small YouTuber I watch who plays this game, will love all of these extra updates.
Especially as those updates are bound to introduce exciting things…
The sulphur chunk looks a bit like a nut…
